Hmm me again...hhaaahaha...this forum is sooo helpful. Anyway, for sum reason my intermittent doesnt work on my wipers? Also the rear one was unplugged and when i plug it in it doeasnt stop  . Lastly, do the wipers stop where they are when you turn them off? Mine dont return to the bottom of the screen when i turn em off...is this normal? Mbe a control stick problem??? Any ideas guys?

when you turn off your ignition the wipers stop where they are.

when you turn em off via the stalk they should return to the bottom otherwise they obstruct your vision.

Sounds like you have faulty relays. I don't know where the relays are but it might be those huge blocks on the fuse box underneath the drivers side footwell.

You cant inspect them for damage unless they visibly burnt or smell burnt. I'd look in the manual to see which block does what.

Yea i think thats them but most are the same!! i tried swapping them around but things are still the same..there are only 3-4 different ones and im not sure how to test them. Im wondering if the stalk itself is faulty?? Is there any way to check the stalk that anyone knows of?

LOL... did you just randomly swap them around? If so... errr...... hope everything that was working still does :D.

Firstly, you wipers should return to the bottom of the windscreen when you turn them off, since your don't, I suggest the self parking mechanism is broken, if you search the forum (some of the more popular sections) you may be able to find a way to test this.

Secondly, if the intermittant mode isn't working, I suspect that the stalk may be faulty, this is quite a common problem with fiat (especially if its a twist one rather than the lever style stalks, if you get me). This may solve your rear wiper woes as well.

I remember that either Unos or Tipos have dodgy windscreen seals that allows moisture to get into the drivers side foot well (where the fusebox is) which can, over time, cause the fusebox to chorode, and stop working properly, in which case you may be in for a new fusebox, although I'd try and get one from a scrap yard as Fiat charge about £200 for em. You should first try and get a copy of the workshop manual with a wiring diagram so that you can identify any relays that may require replacing BEFORE you replace the fusebox itself.

A tell-tale sign that the windscreen seal is faulty is that the lower parts of the windscreen will be visibly cloudy from the outside in the corners, where the seal meets the body.

Well my ex-wife owned the car before me and she has said that there was a new wiper motor fitted about a month before she sold it to me..so that would be approx 3-4 months ago....it shudnt need replacing that quickly....surely? And yes it is the twist type stalk...but no matter where i position it the wipers work at the same speed :bang: . Thx for all your help guys...its doing my head in now!!

I suspect in that case you will probably need a new stalk, Start there. Get one from a scrap yard/ebay if possible I hear they are quite expensive from Fiat.

quick easy fix is to replace the stalk and switch[all one].get a scrap one for a fiver!

Leave the switch alone - the problem is in the motor itself. There's a set of ring contacts in the motor's gearbox that determines where to park the wipers. If the motor can't work out where to park, it won't work intermittantly. Open the gearbox up and clean the contacts. repack the box with mountain bike suspension fork grease or proper plastic gear grease if you can get it. Should work a treat.

It shunt need that doing this soon after having a new one fitted ....surely??

They're really badly made. I've had this happen on just about every fiat I've owned - Cinq (both front and back), Uno (both), Tempra (Both), Punto (rear), Mate's Marea (rear), Panda (front), Mate's Bravo (front), Sister's MkII Punto (Front)

It is possible that the stalk's failed, but in my experince, it's quite unlikely. I'd check the motor out - it may save you some money.

I agree 100% with Hot Fiat - I've done a Tipo front & my Tempra SW front & rear. It'll definitely be grease from the worm gearbox getting all over the contacts. I scrape out 50% of the grease - there's a ridiculous amount in there from new, & use some electrical contact grease very sparingly on the contacts.
Easy job 1 hr tops & no need to grovel under the dash for relays or dismantiling the column shrouds to get at the stalks)

Cheers
