Hi all I have had this problem for a while now my heater fan and headlights and wipers all stopped working all at the same time I dont know much about cars I have check all the fuses except the ones behind the Glovebox headlights seem to be fine tried to change them.

a friend has shown me a tempory way to get the heating and wipers to work but I dont like the idea of this might blow other fuses and worse he has put a single wire from the one of the fuses I think the fan fuse to the Hazards use which makes the Wipers and Heating work but not the main headlights, Dipped headlights still work and always have.

I think with this wire the wipers work on all functions please help me.

Fiat Bravo 1999 1.4 S 12V

Thanks

Come on guys please please help.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I'm in no position to solve your problem but I think it will be necessary to describe exactly what your friend did. This will give us a clear picture.
And don't worry, someone will help you soon enough in this forum, they always do.

ah the old wire in the fusebox trick, thats a good way to start a fire, what your friend obviously realises is that there is no live going to the fuse box for the curcuit(s) that supply the fan, lights and wipers. the solution to your problem is to find out where the live supply is broken, i would guess this may be a blown fuse in the engine compartment, but i dont think there is a fuse purely for the fan, lights and wipers. check the fuses in the engine compartment. if they are all ok they you should get a multimeter and test for a live at each of the footwell fuses for you headlights, wipers and fan. to test for a live you turn the ignition on, remove the fuse then touch the positive terminal of the tester on one of the connections where the fuse pushes in, at the same time the negative terminal of the tester should be touching the other side of the fuse connection. if there is 12v passing through the tester then the power supply is ok. if there is no live passing through the fuse then you know the problem exists betwen the fuse box and battery, i assume this will be the case becuase the wire in the fusebox trick worked. you should then consult a haynes manual and look at the wiring diagram for the lights wiper & fan. this will show you where the break in the curcuit can be. actually finding the problem then requires you to trace back from the fusebox to the battery testing as you go. eventuallly you will find a live and then you can work out what is stopping power from getting to the fuse box. i think i'll leave it there before this turns into an essay.

for the fusebox test you could also use a 12v bulb with 2 wires attached to it, if the bulb lights you have a power supply.

hi my fiat brava 98 reg started doing this last week and it petrified me, it also had loads of people scratching their heads as even they couldnt figure it out (checked all fuses) but after the wipers and heater, lights started working properly I could hear a clicking sound coming from the key ignition barrel and I'd notice my lights would 'blink'. So i presume it's something in the barrel like a bad connection, I'm going to see what I need to do to stop this problem happening again i.e buy a new barrel or sumat. will let you know the outcome if you want?

update:
well after being stranded in leeds i had to abandon my car as main lights, heater and wipers wouldnt funtion, it didnt help that it was after 9pm, freezing and chucking it down,,,,,enough was enough.

next day my brother took the casing off the steering wheel and checked the connections to the ignigion barrel while i was searching scrap yards for a indicater arm and wires, which later i found out i didnt need as my bro had sorted the problem.

one of the connectors was loose behind the ignition barrel which linkled to the wipers, heaters and lights so he got a zip tie (someone must have prev done this before i purchased car and worked loose) and tied them together to stop the troubled connector becoming loose again. So far ive had no problems and this is a safe way to do this as i seeked advice 1st from a garage.

hope this helps you
