Hi,
can anyone help? the 20A fuse keeps blowing on my sons 98 MK1 punto as soon as the stalk is operated the fuse blows. Any advice greatly appreciated.
Steve

looks like you have short circuit.

you could do a search in the archives of this forum to see if this has been covered before

Yes, it was a 20A fuse, the original from what i could tell. Dark and raining when I had a quick look. Will have a look at the motor tomorrow or at the weekend. As an extra question does anyone know where the relay is for the wiper motor?
many thanks
Steve

The fuse hould be in the amin fusebox...behind the oddments tray to the right of the steering wheel. The wiper should be a 20A.
I can't find anywhere that mentions a relay for the wipers.
the only relays on the main fusebox are inginition switch, horn and heated rear window. There are relays in the fusebox in the glove box...but they are lights, sunroof, e/w and c/l

SPS and all,
after stripping down the front wiper assembly removing and disconecting the motor making this circuit open circuit the fuse was still blowing, so to the rear wiper, panel off and straight away noticed the water pipe to the washer was off! disconected this motor closed the boot replaced the fuse and hey presto it was ok. going to strip the motor out at the weekend and check the wiring, at least my son can use his car until then.
cheers steve

Quite a few puntos seem to have the problem of the rear washer pipe coming off....usually resulting in a wet boot. It mut have been dripping onto the contacts and shorting out the fuse then...you might be alright jut drying it out and making sure the contacts are clean.

Steve! Pm me if you need a replacement cheap;)

Parts brought at the weekend, £20 quid for the motor, and £10 for a rear light cluster that had been cracked by some scrote with f*ck all better to do, all put back together and working ok.

Cheers, Nottspunto you were a life saver!! :worship: . I had a similar problem on my Brava where the wiper fuse blew immediately I switched the ignition on. I cleverly removed the front wiper linkage and took out the motor, then found it to be perfect !!?? Back to the car and fuse blew immediately even with the boot open to isolate the back wiper.:bang: Nearly suicidal by now but after reading your tale of woe, sanity prevailed and I realised fault HAD to be in the wiper circuit. Removed back contact plate and found that some silly billy had bodged a previous repair by wrapping the wire around the contact and this had shorted across to the adjacent one. Also the wiper relay contacts had burnt closed, so permanent dead short! Bought contact plate and relay from scrappy for £15 problem solved.(y)
