I'm looking to get a better set of wiper blades to stop the juddering (hopefully)!

I read that Bosch aerotwin are the best but can't find ones that fit the 500. Their site says that the A series are for cars fitted with aerotwin from factory and the AR series are for retro fitting but I can't find any for the 500.

Can anyone help with this, maybe give me the model number of blades that I will need.

Many thanks

Hi tommus. I gather that your car is over a year old so it has gone through a winter. On my last 500 I had the juddering but it was on the driver's side and I also had a problem with the blade 'over shutting' the edge of the windscreen.

I changed just the driver's side to a new one and paid over the top (€45 !) for what I think was a brand name replacement - possibly - Bosch. I had a look in the workshop for the 'old' one and the box but I couldn't find it.

Ebay also has a set - a pair - for £11 something but I have no idea on the quality.

I'd buy a brand name. On the 'over shutting' I had to 'take off' the wiper arm and re-position slightly down to compensate for the over shutting. This happens at speed in a strong cross wind.

Juddering and 'over shutting' has now stopped. I hope this was of help.

Giving the screen & blades a thorough clean helps a lot with juddering. You can clay the screen the same way you clay the paintwork.

I find Autoglym Car Glass Polish gives good results - leave it to dry before polishing off, and be sure to do the wiper blades with it as well.

I bought some intensive glass cutter cleaning stuff from halfords which is similar to the autoglym, will I have to use that on the wipers too?

Whilst in halfords I looked at the Bosch blades and in the booklet under fiat 500 it only has replacements for the convertible. Are the convertible wipers different to the hatchback?

Oh and multispoke, my car is only a week old but my old 500 had juddering wipers, I just wanted to replace them as I knew it would happen!

I've got flashing mileage too, is this a quick easy fix by the dealer?

Personally I would just wait, they'll stop juddering with a bit of use. RainX makes the 500's wipers judder like buggery. Works fine on other cars but the 500 just doesn't like it for some reason.

Congrats on the new car !

If the problem hasn't happened I wouldn't do anything except the tips that jrkitching outlined - there's no point in spending more money :). Buying the wiper now would be premature - when you go looking for them you can never find them ! - Or that might just be me. Anyway rubber tends to perish unless it is stored at the correct humity levels.

Flashing mileage - this is easy fix - mentioned on other threads. I had that on the '08 sport but not on the '09 Lounge. Dealer has to 're-align' 15 min job. I may have caused my own problem on the '08 sport when I left the battery disconnected too long to reset the ECU for the CAI. I now have the correct steps for doing it but unfortunately not for the flashing mileage !

oh the juddering has started already and its worse then the old car but i have had diamondbrite put on the car and it may have got on the windscreen which is why I bought the stuff from halfords to get it off.

Hi Tom'...............

My blades juddered too, apart from all the cleaning advice [which I did] I also twisted the flat metal part of the arms a little so that the blades were "trailing" as opposed to attacking the windscreen like a woodworking plane - Instant fix!
They've been fine since too, and a little TLC at wash time keeps them happy it seems.

Hi tommus

My wiper blades also juddered. It annoyed me immensely. Cleaning didn't help &, to top it all off, the blade on the driver's side was leaving a massive smear in my line of vision.

I replaced the driver's side and also the rear with Bosch blades and the juddering stopped immediately.

The codes you need for the Bosch blades are:

Front driver's side: AM24UF
Rear: H840
Front pair: A300S

If you search online/eBay you will find them a hell of a lot cheaper than they are in Halfords.

Hope this is more helpful than just doing a Google search. I wish someone had told me the codes, would have saved me a lot of time.

It's called trying to help someone help themselves. Everything is far easier when you know how to do it yourself. It's helpful in the short term to give someone information which is freely and easily available on the internet, but in the long term if people just search they will be surprised what can be found by putting the phrase "bosch fiat 500 wiper blades" into google......

I don't think that it's a bad thing to give someone the information that they are asking for here on the forum if you happen to know the answer. It's called 'being helpful'. It's nice when a forum becomes a collection of information for a particular subject. If you don't think so, no problem, but I'm happy to help if I know the answer. And that's coming from someone whose job it is to show people how to look for information themselves!

but in the end if people are just spoonfed information then they will never even try to find it themselves. This isn't some incredibly difficult bit of information to find, this isn't "What parts would I need to put Abarth front brakes on a 1.2" which would require being able to crossreference parts which means having Eper which isn't publicly available (easily at least), this is something which anyone could find out in 10 seconds :) I prefer to teach people to be self reliant and not helpless.

How many people have never bothered to post again thanks to your helpful outlook, 'maxi?

Anyway, back on topic. tommus, I hope you found the codes useful.

32.5 at last count.

If one person never visits this forum to post the most easily answered of questions because they realise that they themselves are capable of finding the answers then I've done my job :)

I'm happy to spoonfeed people when it comes to information which isn't so easily available or people just wouldn't think about.....

if tommus googled when i said to then he found out the information ages before you spoonfed him :)

It's exactly this kind of attitude that spoils forums which are supposed to helpful places where like-minded people can shares ideas and help each other. Though I dare say that after making in excess of 10,000 posts about a car there probably isn't anything helpful left to say.

Anyway. Re the wipers. I've had the same problem since I picked mine up in December. I had hoped the juddering would have stopped by now but 1,000 miles later and it's just as bad. Would be interested to hear how you go on with those Bosch wipers if you do give them ago. I think I'll be doing the same soon!!

Jnoiles bought some bosch wipers and they cured the juddering. I'm on my second set of Fiat wipers now and the one thing I can reccomend is that other than cleaning the screen that you don't do anything special like put rainx on or a glass cutting compound. Every time I've done that the wipers just start to judder again. Left to do their own thing the wipers are fine and don't judder given a bit of time.

Out of interest Maxi did you have the same problem with the second set? Really wish I hadn't looked at this site tonight... the wipers are a sore topic whenever I'm in the car with the missus and it's raining!:bang:
