I was basically told that all season tyres are jack of all trades master of none. Tbh on a 4WD with them having the snowflake symbol they should be fine in the winterRobW and Maxi - very good articles ... personally I've read a fair bit about winter vs summer tyres, but not a great deal about all-season tyres.
I did find a fantastic comparison with all three on an ice rink (think it was in Canada).
Just Ordered some Goodyear Vector 4 seasons for the other halfs 4x4 - all season M+S tyree but with the snowflake symbol
If it's the snowflake inside a peak logo it's fineM&S symbol is meaningless, Nankang NS2 are M&S marked but struggle to cope in warm damp let alone cold damp/slush :bang:

Yeah they do look a little like the Vredesteins.nope they are probably useless as the warm and damp is not for what they are intended for however the M&S rating as maxxi says it truely defined by the symbol

bit like wearing gym shoes to go wading through a bog true winter tyres are no good on warmer surfaces due to the softer compound
Oh and maxxi they look very much the same as the Ved snowtracs except for the centre band
Yup, its that time of year, interesting to see this thread actually started before the ice came.
I have the all season Vredstein Quatracs which got me through all the blizzards last year, and have been sitting out of ultraviolet light waiting for this week.
The Toyos on the car at the moment are leaden when cold but do actually warm up to give reasonable grip, but nothing like the Quatracs.
Will probably swap over at the weekend, unless more Indian summer forecast.
Cheers
