Hi

I had my windscreen repaired last year by autoglass and all was fine until this morning when it developed a 4 inch crack along the repair. Autoglass guarentee there repairs for as long as you own the vehicle.

I spoke to them today and they are coming out on friday to fit a new windscreen free of charge. I have been reading that generic parts they use are of lower quality, has anyone had any experience of this?

Would it be worth insisting they fitted a fiat original part as it was there inadequate repair that broke my windscreen?

Also there seems to be some real horry stories of fitters damaging bodywork and causing rust etc as a result, anything I should look out for?

Cheers,

it will probably say somewhere in the smallprint of the guarentee that they use a certain stock, or can use whatever is available to them...

as to what to look out for, keep an eye out for leaks, check the seals are fitted properly and check there are no chips/scratches on the paintwork

Regards,

Mike

Whenever my dad takes his car to the garage he makes the guy who takes it off him look around it, point out any imperfections and then sign a piece of paper to say whats what.

Then if ever they damage the bodywork you have a disclaimer to fall back on.

They make you do it when you get a courtesy car, so why not do it back.

I would suggest doing the same for the windscreen fitter, or atleast just watch them do it so you can point out if the scratch the paint.

I'd definatley check the seals. My boyfriends car had a windscreen replaced by them, then one day he was going down the dual carriage way, and the whole top part of the seal pealed off. Not a good look to have electrical tape sticking it back on!!!

Thanks phillipa,

I will do, I see your in Northampton too. So presumably the same branch, hope they learnt there lesson!
