General Windscreen VIN condensation

Hi all

Well here is the latest news with my windscreen, last week my dealership called to say please drop the car into them today so they can remove the screen to check the vin plate & where the water is coming from, & i was told that my car would only be in for a day!

Hoever at half one this afternoon the phone call from fiat came, not too say that my car was ready but to say that when they removed the screen they cracked it!!! so it will be another day or 2 since they dont have any sceeens in stock (I think all ulysse owners know that saying!) They have ordered my new screen on VOR for speed!

I asked why cant they just get autoglass to fit a new screen ?(Silly me thought that would have been alot faster) only to be told that they can only fit "real" fiat glass! but it should be there Wednesday but maybe not......

The saga goes on...................................

Hi Paul,

I know it is annoying, but I would definitely want to wait for the 'real' thing and not an Autoglass version - I am not sure what spec you got, but think of all the other bits on the windscreen re light sensors, rain sensors, etc.....

Also, aren't your dealers using this contraption to remove the condensation - not that my dealer has one, only a fax copy of something from Fiat Uk.

Hi Stuart

no my dealer has said Ive got the only car with this problem & to remove the screen was fiat uk tech teams best idea!

I asked them about this gizmo that your dealer said about & they had no knowage about it! I think they are getting fed up with me asking questions all the time & thanks to you & this forum It seems I know more about the car than they do!

I will let you know when (And if ) I get my car back

Hi Paul,

Mmmmmm - only one to have this problem. Fiat UK are aware of it because it was the technician at my dealer [Motorvogue, Northampton] that pointed it out to me!!!!! He had been told via them. And it was Fiat UK who faxed their solution over - taking a window out was not an option considered.

Looks like Fiat UK's tech team has chinese walls in place between each team member.

Definetely persevere - I will wait until next update comes through, then chat to dealer again about this condensation.

Hi,

Does anybody want to buy a slightly used Fiat Ulysse, I have gone off mine.

Slight engine managment issue, but by the sounds of it you have to have at least one fault with a Ulysse.

Hi stuart

Just to let you know that the new replacement screen (it looks like a modified screen to me diff markings) Well the VIN number window is now larger & a black edgeing is all around the screen at a minimum of about 3mm & it works!!! after 3 days even with the rain we had in london still no condensation!

Also got one of my new light units I`ve been waiting for since Dec.

Hi,

Excellent news, I have never had a problem with condensation so I will check to see if my screen is like your new one. Did they do a good job of fitting the screen, no damage inside or scratches on the paint round the pillars etc.

Mine is all working again, so I am pleased. At last the beeping seems to have gone (fingers crossed).

I have an update on this problem. My VIN number window was always covered in condensation but after a holiday in Italy (just south of Rome, it was hot) the condensation cleared up completely, I noticed this after about 4 days. This was almost three weeks ago and it has not returned. On the way home I have spent 4 days in an alpine village, warm days, cool nights and have encountered rain and cool weather from there to London. I would have expected the condensation to return but it has not.

So... my suggestion is for the people who have this problem is. That if FIAT cannot come up with a Technical solution then one should ask them for a fully paid holiday for passengers and car to somewhere hot until the condensation clears up, with return trips if necessary.
It could work out cheaper for them.

7 weeks have gone by since the condensation cleared up in my VIN window and it is still clear.

So start planning those trips to hot countries and get FIAT to pay.
