Okay so I'm running W8 on the main PC. After about 4 months it started nagging about needing to activate windows.click through and it fails to activate.
Gagged around, tried various things from the net but no joy.
In the end I decided to bite the bullet and call M$.
So after going through various depts,I get sorted with remote assistance.tries and fails on various stuff(most of which I had tried before) and went to reboot. Reboot to no internet.at that point I gave up as o assumed it was my router etc and would sort it myself and call back.
However it appears not.I now have no internet access.windows firewall OS throwing up errors and won't allow me to change settings.
So am I resigned to a fresh install?

Without looking at remotely (no internet so you're buggered) I can't help. But I think it's going to be related to Windows firewall.

I assume you've tried that because your not an 'average' user lol.

Could try from elevated cmd prompt:- netsh winsock reset

And:- netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

I've gone completely full swing I love Windows 8. Hating it is what the 'ignorant' seem to do (like I admit I *was*).

yeah been through most options/ideas I could find online.
I have had more grief in 4 months with W8 than I ever had with multiple W7 installs!
I also had another issue with the C drive filling up.
whilst messing about I finally got the answer to that
my W8 config folder had filled up with 70,000 surplus files!
seems a common problem for some

been a disaster. I dug out the old laptop(sempron power!) and remember I hadent reinstalled XP on it
so installed XP and it came up with a log in screen aslking for a password :bang:
samew disc I have used many times so no idea what happened there. had to reinstall it again
Then I couldnt find my driver disc for the laptop,so had no internet on 2 computers

So dug out my old Vaio desktop all in one. to get the drivers, put them in an SD card and then put them on the laptop

So im sitting with 3 computers running just now lol. just getting some files off the W8 machine and ensuring I have a new W8 DVD just incase

Could always go back to OS/2 Warp :D.
