As subject: when winding down the window, at a certain point it drops about an inch, then continues winding down as normal. Winding up is fine. It seems like the winder mechanism is skipping a tooth on the gearing - could it actually be as simple as that?
Either way, any clues as to what to look for would be appreciated, or is it a case of getting a new regulator?

The video shows the mechanism dropping as it goes through its midpoint but the gears not slipping. It suggests to me that something is loose, worn or missing in the mechanism. Window mechs have two arms that are diagonal when the window is up, are horizontal wen the window is half way and are diagonal the other way when the window is down. My guess is that the pivot pin is in a slot or opened up hole of some sort. The weight of the window pushes the pin to one end of the hole until it gets half way, then pushes it to the other end of the hole as it gets to the mid point. Maybe there is a missing bush or guide on the pivot pin.

Could be that, yes... The spindle is a bit rattly. I'll probably take it all off to have a look, then get a new regulator if it can't be fixed
I may have a good used original winder if required. I did sell one last year who bought one of the new ones on sale now and he said that the quality was so poor he would not fit it.

Thanks. I may follow up with you depending on what I find when I take it off... Any tips on removing it btw?
I am afraid it has been a few years since I last worked on one so not the best person to ask on that one.

I took everything off. The spindle is a bit loose but a wasn't able to open the back to check it out. I regreased it and put it back - now it moves more smoothly but still does the 'drop' so looks like a replacement is in order. The Auto Bella one seems to be ok

Does anyone else keep reading that topic and think how does the glass drop an inch in the middle???

You can see in this picture that the arm that holds the window is fastened by 2 rivets and a tab at the end that goes through a slot in the sun gear. When the window is all the way up, the arm is pointing upwards. When the window is all the way down, the arm points downwards. When the window is half way, the arm is horizontal as shown here. Something will be loose somewhere. As the arm passes through the horizontal, the weight of the window will shift from pushing the loose part one way to pushing it the other way. The window will drop as the loose pin suddenly moves to the other side of the hole it is in.

Just wondering if it could be a "tight" bit of the glass slider guides? In my experience there's always a bit of slack in these sort of mechanisms and if the window glass is binding slightly in the guides in the middle of it's travel, then it will hang up a bit which allows the mechanism to use up this slack before overcoming the tightness and the window then drops a bit as it continues descending under gravity. Try starting with the window fully up and get an assistant to slowly wind the window down as you grip the glass on the inside and outside with both hands and exert a downward force on the glass. If it goes down past the point at which it seems to hang up smoothly without the hangup then I'd guess the winder mechanism is Ok. - In fact you may actually feel the "tight" bit - If there's tooth damage you'll probably feel this as it transitions the damaged tooth/teeth.

These mechanisms are not usually made from hardened steel and, if the damage is to the pinion teeth only, can be very successfully repaired by welding metal to the worn teeth and filing back to profile. The pinion wheel is a bit more difficult though.

Referring to your video, if it was a problem with the teeth, would you not see it manifesting itself on the way up too - maybe even worse on the way up?

This sounds more likely than my explanation.

The new one arrived today. Quality looks OK, though a few rough edges round the holes needed to be filed off. Now fitted and the glass no longer drops, so that's a result. Slightly stiff action despite greasing but I think it should ease up with use. I ground off the spot joints on the old one to see if I could see the problem, but there was nothing obvious except the teeth on the cogs were quite rounded, so maybe it was just jumping at a certain point.
