Lookign at replacing the speakers in my Sei, and stumbled across these:

http:// caraudiosecurity. com/ shop/ product/ products_id/ 2415.html

(ARGH! won't let me post url's!(n)) [remove the spaces!]

i'm not very car-diy minded and wondered if it is a literal take out old and plug in new?

Also looking at getting some basic ones for the rear, any suggestions?

...that's because you need to make 5 posts before doing urls...

anyway - down to business;

I presume these are for the fronts?

Yes they will fit - but with the tweeters being stuck out so much you might struggle to get them behind the grills properly without breaking the cone itself - or the sound distorting badly.

opinion?

these:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KENWOOD-KFC-1...VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

(If for some reason the link doesnt work get on ebay and type 180244544444 in the search field).

Had these in my cinq, and now in my Sei (with the bigger basier brothers in the rear) - and they sound spot on, without affecting your wallet too much!

yes they are for the fronts! Thank you very much, will prolly get these...is it still a case of taking of the mesh and swapping the speakers?

What ones do you recommend for the back? Don't need/want expensive ones, just ones good enough to give me a semi-decent sound!

yeah pretty much - but you may not be able to put the mesh back without breaking the speakers or the mesh - as the tweeters poke out too much more than the OE spec ones.

I'm a Kenwood man as far as speakers are concerned - Sony speakers are excellent, but a little pricier than kenwoods, and no real difference in sound quality.
As far as subs are concerned I don't really have a preference so long as the watt rating and impedence is suitable - currently I'm using a cheap 400 watt ripspeed sub, but running via a 150 watt sony amp, which controls it nicely - drives the base well without being too loud or chavvy.
Ironically this is (in addition to the aforementioned kenwoods from my previous post) being run off a jvc H/U - and it's great concidering it was so cheap, though again I would personally take a Sony H/U over anything else if price wern't an issue.

Thanks for your help!

I've just taken off one of the front mesh's to have a look and get a general idea of what's going on.

but you may not be able to put the mesh back without breaking the speakers or the mesh
i noticed that the speaker was attached to the mesh, you saying i'm going to break something? surely they are best left as they are and the money spent on back ones? (by the way - i'm not going to full length of getting a sub!)

EDIT: just noticed my head unit (is this what its called) is a Sony CDX-C5000R which has 4 x 50W outputs...will the speakers you suggested be sufficient?

speakers suggested will be fine, i have the later ones than in the link and there fine.

as for breaking them, just measre the gap you have. mine have tweeters and fit in there prefectly. give it ago, jsut be careful.

ecellent. thank you very much. now looking for back ones!

The output/input watts have confused me. i've got a 50w output, what input power W should i be looking at?

(sorry for all the n00b questions!)

For example, will these do:

well if you have 50w output you dont want anything lower than 50w, it will fry them.

now you can have anything higher,

eg. mine are 120w running at 40w from the headunit. however to get the full capabilities of the speakers idealy you need the same w. but im also running 400w rears and the quality is stunning. that is still at 40w. so aslong as its above the output your fine.

EDIT yes those speakers will do fine as there rated at 60, which is above the 50 your outputting

I've just whacked some Gale bookshelf speakers on the floor in mine as an install that didn't cost me anything. The speakers were sat redundant on the top of my cupboard, after being upgraded a while ago, and the headunit was given to my by a friend, the speaker cable i had left over from a previous install!

The Cinq's are fairly easy to get sounding nice, In my first Cinq, i just had a set of 10cm Pioneers up front, a nice headunit, some 15cm's in the rear shelf, a cheap Sony 222W amp, and a small powered JBL sub, cost very little and had a very nice result, decent quality, decent volume, and not daft.

There's no problem in using a more powerful amp than what your speakers are rated at unless you try cranking up the volume past its limits, thus killing the speaker, but you'd hear massive distortion before that happened.

FTR, you could actually cause just as much, even more damage to your speakers through underpowering them, than you would be likely to do so by overpowering them.

There're some cracking deals about for speakers and amps etc, if you bought from a small shop you'd likely get your wiring kit thrown in which is always a bonus.

Happy motoring,

Oggy

thanks for all the help so far. thinking of going for a sony combo.

will these fit in the front nicely?

EDIT: just realised they are 30W power, but the three way ones are 40W...better?

Again those sony ones have the raised tweeter section - which may cause issues getting it to fit / work properly under the mesh...

ah ok, not to worry, will get the kenwood ones for front. thank you!

thank you for all your help, bought the sony ones and got them fitted today...top sound :)

yeah, when the brackets were resting on the mesh brackets the tweeter was a good 2cm away from the mesh!

I bought Hertz speakers & they have a seriously raised tweeter but I fixed that by spacing them back using a few washers & the existing screws.

when i finally get around to putting a set up in my car im looking at either a set of co/triaxials or a tidy set of components for it. tbh the kenwoods in the link are very poor really as they are a dual cone design which attempts to do the job of highs and lows using 1 cone/voicecoil and sticking a smaller cone to the large one. To people who arnt looking for great levels of detail then they are a sensible and cost effective choice as they provide easy fitting in the original positions and the grills will go back as they were intended and will sound much better than the original fiat ones. For those looking for clarity depth and good stereo imagery and focus then the best for the job is going to be the co/triaxial speakers or for sheer purity and sonic separation id go for a component setup. Both of these solutions have their own merits and problems. I will list my thoughts below

starting with co/triaxials

pros/ seperate drivers to deal with all frequencies, very balanced sound, fairly cost effective, simple installation, some have adjustable tweets/mids to sort out the soundstage/focus

cons/ most are quite bulky at the front so not much chance of using the original grills, a lot of cheap rubbish about (although some of the cheaper ones are quite good eg some of the smaller boschmann ones)

now ill move on to component setups

pros/ awesome sound quality, perfect separation of frequencies right through the range, flexibility of installation as the speaker units are seperate so the midbass drivers should go into original positions with original covers and tweeters should be easy to set up

cons/ can be quite expensive, seperate crossovers need to be hidden (although some sets dont require a seperate crossover)

any questions please dont hesitate to ask

cheers
