I have my spare tyre in boot with the jack etc, and that must add a bit of weight. I do have full AA cover, If i got a flat would they take me home ?

Meaning if i take out my tyre for space/ boot build, would mr AA man take me home ?

You don't have to carry a spare by law, but I think some breakdown services make it a requirement to carry one. I had 2 flat tyres once on the motorway at about 11pm and I was escorted off the motorway by the police on the flat tyres. The RAC then sent a mobile tyre fitter to fit two new tyres by the roadside. They wouldn't recover it for tyre repairs. I got invoiced by the RAC for the tyres and to be honest they weren't very expensive. I didn't have to pay a call out charge, just the cost of tyres.

You get tyre weld as standard on TVR's, but in my experience if you are on the motorway the tyre is trashed before you are able to stop.

If the spare is a space saver, it won't add that much weight (especially compared to a full tank of fuel) and it's not worth the hassle of not having a spare. If your in a country lane at 1am, you'll regret not being able to fix it yourself.

On a similar subject, I was thinking about taking out AA cover for my cars (now that I'm too old to be added to my parents' cover :( )... BUT if I break down in, say, Newquay, would they tow my car home or just take me to a garage? Because there is no way I would pay any half-witted spanner-monkey to work on my cars!

Depends on which policy you get Jonny....

I am covered by having my car being the family car and my parents having personal cover :)

you need relay cover (y) stay with aa coz it covers you in any car even if your not driving it :)

Let me guess: you only get the long tow home on the most expensive policy, right? 'Cos its far cheaper for them to dump you at some cowboy car dealer's for repairs...

Just thought: what if, say, your gearbox falls off at 11pm, obviously theres no garage open so would they be forced to give you the tow home regardless of policy? (y)

EDIT: dave, I was going to go with AA for that precise reason, covers both my cars and whatever I happen to borrow...

Nope, they'd drop you off at the nearest garage I expect. Open or not, "recovery to nearest garage" means that.

Most recovery companies these days I am sure will cover the person, the AA never comes out cheapest for me.

Pish (n) 'cos it's twice as much for relay! Oh well, it's probably a good idea considering I plan on spending most of the summer bonmbing round the country in the Capri

most breakdown policies will give the option off covering the driver or just the car.
as to towing you home you need to check the small print, precisely what ive been checking today to ensure if i break down tomorrow they will tow me home all the way to bonnie scotland if need be.
recovery to your home address is worth it as if you break down on the motorway the tow off charge is way more than a years breakdown cover.

get googling as there are plenty of companies offering breakdown cover.i got a good price of 'more than' plus they let you pay it up

Im with norwich union cover which uses rac vans i think. Policy cost £60 for me mum and bro. Me and mum covered in any car and anyone driving my brothers car is covered. They'll take us home even if we're in newquay ;)

Fab price i thought :D

Try this:

http://www.moneysupermarket.com/roadsiderescue/

For me, cheapest one that offers recovery to any destination comes out about £38, bargain, AA was £78.....

Moneysupermarket is excellent for this sort of thing.
is that for car or person? aa covers you even if your the pasenger, so if a mate brakes down you get another mate to take you to thier car, then ring aa an get mates car home, mate gives you £20 (y) oh and when i have used them they arive in less than an hour and know exackly where you are from phone signal, no waiting for them while the are lost they got sat nav :)
