My car stil doesn't work. I brought it to a mechanic in town. They changed the timing belt. Than they changed the coil. Then they found out the ignition distributer was fried. So I ordered a new one they installed it. And then they found out that the new magnetti Marelli coil was not working so they put in the old coil. Then it started. But it only runs for an couple of minutes and then it dies. So I got it back from the mechanics because they advised me to go to another shop that has more experience in older cars. It going there next Thursday. In the meantime I thought maybe I order a new magnetti Marelli coil because I read somewhere that a broken coil could damage the ignition distributer. So I installed it today and it ran for exactly 38 seconds and now it won't start up again. I am so sad. The car drove for 3 hours since I bought it two months ago 😭

Do you have the engine Series number and possibly the ignition type?
I may have some details more along the lines of Technical Data manual information, or perhaps another Forum member can advise.

I found a sticker on the inside of the left fender (when facing the car) it said LG 156C-88. I think I have a bosch ignition do you know how I can recognize the ignition type?

Those numbers mean nothing to me.
Try on Vin. Number plate. I don't need chassis number . More something like this Engine Series numbers 156A3.000 or 156A2.246 maybe looking at the manuals I have.

After engine cuts out Look to see if spark at spark plug , use a spare spark plug if you have one . Then you will know if not running due to no spark or fuel problem.

Hi! Thanks for the input. I heard from the mechanics that it sometimes ran for 15 minutes and they tried several times and it seemed to run longer the colder the engine was. I have tested the fuel pressure and that is there. I feel that I should be there if it ran for 15 minutes.

Hi , do the easy spark test then you will know if spark is missing or not .

Check the coolant temperature sensor for the injection system , it is not the same sensor for the temperature gauge

Hi, They tested the sparks at the mechanics and they told me the sparks where weak.
When are sparks weak? When cold? When it cuts out? From the "king" lead from the ht coil? Or from the spark leads?

Has the rotor arm been renewed?

Post photos of the distributor and the ignition coil

The sparks where weak in general. I know they tested bother the "king" lead and the spark leads. The whole ignition distributer had been renewed. So there is a new arm. I drove the car for three hours from where I bought it and just before I arrived home it lost power blew out a black little cloud and then stoped. It did not run until they changed the sparkplugs and the whole ignition distributer. I'm going to take pictures now.

Because I was taking the pictures I noticed that the put on the old distributer cap. When I took it of there was some black dirt in it and the main little button in the middle that has a spring on it seemed a little loose 😕

Is the rotor arm new?

Good news is the ignition system is totally separate to the injection.

And coil looks correct.

Side note the ignition timing needs to be set correctly using a strobe with the vacuum advance tube disconnected and plugged. Engine needs to be running to set timing.
