Technical Why is it eating wheels? WTF?

On full lock to the right 80% of the time it will do this:

It won't do it when I'm turning left. It's rubbing the shock. Does anyone know why exactly? :bang:

Standard seicento wheels. The only thing thats changed on the car is the 60mm lowering, is that causing it?

Maybe. Where is it contacting the shock?

Best guess is that a few production tolerances plus wear plus the drop are all adding up.

You might try lock stops, but the 3mm Cinq Sporting spacers are a cheaper/easier thing to try.

It's scraping the bottom of the shock where the two bolts go through it to attach to the hub.

Could a knackered top mount be the cause?

if there lots of camber ? Try and space it out !

Thinking about it, the relationship between the strut and the wheel is fixed by the strut bolts. Play in the wheel bearings might influence things.

But I think 3mm spacers (Cinq Sporting) should sort it. Might improve turn in, too!

It will be spaced out 10mm soon enough but for the moment I'm wondering what's actually causing it as it wasn't doing it before and it's on standard parts?

There's basically no camber on it at all and as mentioned above surely there should be no change in the distance between the wheel and shock as the hub is fixed?

There is plenty of knocking from that corner so I think I will have it apart and stick a different top mount on at the weekend. Even if that doesn't change it at least I will know everything is done up tight.

Edit: I may get a 32mm? socket and check the hub nut is tight as well...

I'd guess that the wheel bearing is on it's way out.

Yep, just lowered.

Monroe Reflex shocks, they look identical to standard and haven't caused a problem until now. Again, it's only doing it on one side...

You 100% that it's the strut that's touching the wheel?

Well I actually had the wheel off today for a proper look and it's not the shock!

Despite being amazingly close it's not touching it, it's rubbing the lower ARB bracket so it's down to the lowering!

I'll be careful with it for now and spacing it out will fix it

Did you remove the arb recently? Might have fitted it upside down.

It's very much the right way up. Not been off in a long time but will be shortly for poly bushes.

It's on top of the wishbones, looks like the corner of the lower bracket just catches the inside of the wheel.

The bracket does appear to be inline with the edge of the wheel.
Weird thing... my 13" Sporting wheels weren't that close to the bracket, but the left one caught the shock and stripped off the weights immediately, lol!

Seems like centos have female mood swings when it comes to 'accessories'.

If it's got pistons or boobs, it's gonna be expensive... or at least hate you once a month for no particular reason.

mine used to do this , when my shocks were knackered it would rub on the bottom of the Arb mount ,, untill i fitted wider spacers and lowered more and better susps it stoped rubbing

Told you mines too low now

Since the wishbones are pointing upwards the wheels just gets too close...
