hi drivign along today when rea lights was about to turn so i stopped, pedetrians were crossign when a cyclists at full speed just went through the middle?

surely they must have soem common sense and have to stop at a red light as well.

me beign peeved off, drove up to him, as he hadnt got far, and put the window down an said you have to stop at a red lightand told me to eff off??

this didnt improve relatiosn and i decided to cut into his lane, either way i had to get soem sort of revenge
despite me prob gettign a roastign from soem you on here.

As far as I'm aware cyclists have to abide by the highway code too - pedestrians get right of way over all traffic.

I like cycling in principle but you get some right knobheads out there. Many a time I've almost taken one out due to poor roadsense - not indicating direction, coming up the inside of filter lanes. I also like how the campaign for cycle lanes, then use pavements/crossing when it suits them or even better - cycle beside the cycle lane...what's that all about!

I was actually walking down Oxford road in Manchester the other day when a cyclist went through on a red light.......next moment, on came a siren and flashing lights and the police pullled him over, lol. I bet the lycra clad speedster felt a real idiot as loads of people were looking at him as they walked along

Do you know what really gets on my tits!?!

Cyclists not having lights on their bikes, twice now i have been driving down a road near me, a londgone that i often speed on when its empty or late at night (just saying i do, i know its stupid, thats not the issue so lets leave it at that) and kids on bmx's (i say kids, more like teenagers, not that young) have been practically in the middle of the road, in the dark, swearving, no exageration, SWEARVING from side to side, wearing mostly black with a black bike, had i been going faster i would have hit one of them and the other i was driving very slow so i saw him, on both occasions i opened the window and shouted "get some lights on your bike you ****"!

Cyclists

Imagine how militant you'd get if you were nearly killed several times each journey by someone in a vehicle 20 times bigger than you. I see lots of danger on the roads in my car so it must look much worse from a saddle.

Not all cyclists break the law, but its easy to spot the ones who do. Bit like when you're out in your car, you'll get to your destination and the only other vehicles you'll remember seeing will be the ones that cut you up (or maybe the ones in really nice cars). So you remember the bad cyclists and not the good ones.

I guess the essence of what I'm saying is that all groups in society have good and bad folk in them, and you shouldn't tar people with the same brush. For example, some people would say all people with modded cars drive with scant regard to the law. Give cyclists room, after all it's probably one less car clogging up the road.

Seb, did it occur to you to slow down on this road knowing that kids ride on it?

Once i came across two of them it did, you see i like to think some people have brains, riding in the dark in black with no lights is, how do you say? STUPID now that i have seen an example of two retards i do take care down that road

Back in the days when I did a lot of cycling, (when I was to poor to have a car, although I had a licence) to work and back 15 miles a day I got caught out by cars EVERYDAY and I always kept to the laws of the road, apart from speeding!! Stoped at lights behind cars signalled at junctions even did major roundabouts. I got caught up in arguments about who had right of way etc all the time. About a year ago I started riding again. 2nd time out I got knocked off my racing bike by a car who thought he could get though a gap, I was wearing cleat racing shoes and I just didn't have time to react and went over with my bike, needless to say I have not been on a bike since. All road users ie cars, bikes buses etc you get your good and bad ones like said above you only remember the bad

Some cyclists are arseholes, their own worst enemy. Then again some motorists are just as bad and a damn site more dangerous because they control more than a ton of metal!

We all use the road and this trend to demonise one group or another does nothing to solve our real problem, the state of the roads.
This country tries to do everything on the cheap, with predictable results.

Using a bike or motorbike for a while ensures you're a better car driver. Being on two-wheels is a good grounding for when you move to a car, you tend to understand their problems and even anticipate them.

Cyclists should be on the roads where they belong. Forcing them onto pavements etc is a backward step. All a cyclist needs from the world is a yard of room and some courtesy.

slightly different in genre, but i hate motorcyclists  especially when you're sat there minding you're own business and they think its funny to come up on your INSIDE and park in front of you at a red light, why indeed, for the sake of a few seconds. i agree with the point about cycle lanes, the amount of bikes i see on the pavement, they may as well give us our roadspace back.

I was on a scooter for a year and a bit, your right, it gives you perspective, i always give way to bikes etc now

@ carl
im afraid i have been guilty of the above at junctions. generally though if i approach a junction with only one or two cars in front i dont see the point in filtering. only when the line is longer do i skip through.

mainly because i know i wont be holding anyone up at the front (quicker away see) and therefore cause less hassle than being at the back of the line taking up room that another car could occupy.

i have to admit (much like mountain machine) there is a minority of nuisance bikers who seem to be out to prove themselves (a mate being one of em, i dont ride or drive anywhere near him anymore) and as described earlier they are the minority so lets not tar us all with the same brush ;)

As a motorcyclist i can answer why we cut to the front of the queue.

if we stay behind you then the next bit of traffic you get stuck in (and you will) we have to pass you into oncoming traffic.

So we take advantage of you in a stationary position and just nip to the front of the queue.

I've yet to be beaten from the lights by any car (and i mean ANY) due to the fact that bikes are so light, so I see no problem with letting bikes to the front (i do when I'm in my car)

ask yourself this...if you had the chance to overtake the car in front (without putting you or them in danger) would you????

whilst on my bike I've been overtaken by cars who then push back in before they have passed me nearly knocking me off, just to get one place in front of me.

"we have to pass you into oncoming traffic."

That is the one of the stupidest thing I've ever heard, you could always do what we car drivers are forced to do and apply the brakes and wait for the traffic to move.

And btw, not all bikes are as fast as yours off the lights and what about when it comes to cornering...we have to wait for your slow asses to get round them incase you fall off.

every RTA i've been to involving cyclists has been the car/truck/van drivers fault, pulling out in front, cutting them up etc, as for cutting that cylcist up, why? did he do anything to you? I dont think so, telling you to eff off, i'd have done the same, although I wouldnt have gone through a red light. Wind your neck in, it seems it wasnt the cyclist that acted like he owned the road, it was you by all accounts.

As for motorbikes going to the front of traffic at lights, I did the same and, like steve, was never beaten off the line, but then there's not many cars on the road that can do 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. Then you get the morons who swerve out to try to stop you from passing them, like it will make any difference to them. Mopeds, now thats different, they jump to the front and do 25-30 mph with smelly 2 stroke smoke billowing out.

Any bikers out there take note tho, went to one prat who was cutting down the inside of cars, he was hit off and it was his fault, if passing stationary/slow moving trafic, go down the outside, police did him for careless driving or similar.

Can we not have a sensible non "i am better than you" conversation!

lol @ Seb

i didnt intend for it to become one of those discussions, simply making the point that some bikers seem hell bent on making my driving as difficult as possible, i know its the minority and in the same breath, i take my hat off to those bikers who obey the law and respect cars, i even move over for cyclists undertaking me, so as to avoid them 1. scratching the s**t out of my car and 2. being knocked off against the kerb or something. it aggrivates me when you are doing the speed limit on a straight road and yet, some motorcyclists aren't happy with that and still risk overtaking you. i also think scooters are one of the worst things on our road, my brother is walking proof of the very reason why 16 year olds should not be allowed on them, he came of it 6 times, once nearly fatally. only 2 of those accidents were his error in fairness.

respect

I think 250cc and above motorcycle riders have to have maximum respect on the roads

why?

Coz you have to be a nutter to be on one of those things!!!! your 20 times more likely to die riding one than been in a car....I don't like thosse odds

As a show of respect for this if a motorcyclist wants to overtake i safetly move over to let him/her blast it upto 150+mph....nutters!!!

mopeds = evil queue jumpers, as pointed out earlyer if they can't stay infront of me because they can only do 25-30mph then they shouldn't under/overtake me when stationary as i then have to try and get round them in oncoming traffic.

cyclists = deathwish!!! same point as mopeds really plus undertaking is not allowed, i've checked the highway code and everything, i think stationary is the only exception or something like that.
