Good morning, I normaly play with old fiat pandas but have just picked up a Multipla last night that has a couple of problems and was looking for some advice.

1. It has a fault that the car starts well, but as soon as you put your foot on the throttle the engine mangment light comes on and the pedal become less responsive. Have had the code reaqd and the problem is with the the Throttle potensiomiter, I have read about a white connector but am not sure where I am looking for it. Can anyone point me in the direction with a picture or thread thats describes it.

2. 4th gear can just be selected and held in, if you let go of the lever then it just jumps out. Is there an adjustment for the control cables?

I have ordered a workshop manual of eBay but its not here yet.

The car is a 2001 JTD 1.9.

Many thanks

Lee

Just relooked at my title, before anyone says... I know the gearbox is under the bonnet!!

Would you believe it, the manual just dropped thru the door as well.

What a morning, Im flying thru these faults.

White connector found, played with, plugged and unplugged many times with some WD40 on it. Result = Fixed.

Gearbox fault was a bit more difficult, managed to get it into 4th with the engine off, started and it didnt jump out? Kept selecting in/out with engine off and it seemed to get better and more positive. Been for a test drive. Result = Fixed.

Now the down side of the test drive, there is a knackered bearing in the gearbox. It rumbles a fair bit so Im going to put to new gear oil in and see how long it lasts.

Just to mention, this car only arrived at midnight last night and is for the misses to see if she can get on with it moving her parents, driving position etc, etc. It only has to last for a couple of weeks and then I will invest in a better car.

I think I got a bargain as it has MOT til May 12, tax til end Nov 11 and was £275.

The white connector job, its cost free and takes all of 60 seconds, do it before spending any money on anything.

A black cable from the potentiometer bottle [ Throttle Position Sensor ] above the throttle pedal traverses left behind the stereo to the passenger side, it carries a varying ohms resistance message [ depending on the throttle position ] to the ECU via the white connector which is easily visible from inside the car under the passenger side bulkhead.

>> stand on the road / passenger side / look under the glovebox / bulkhead / is white << :D

You will get the injector light and at least 3 unrelated code errors from this dirty connection. Garages charge £150 at least for a potentiometer replacement when in truth they just clean or make good the white connector.

If you are foːɐ̯ʃpʁʊŋ dʊɐ̯ç ˈtɛçnɪk, then go the whole hog and solder & sleeve it, but most times just pulling it apart 5 or 6 times is enough to make a good electrical contact.
