General Which winter tyres are people going for

Got to laugh really - each day we've had the winter tyres on it's got a little bit warmer!:D

Carry on at this rate and I'll be back into shorts and flip-flops before Christmas!

Nah, I think we are in for some fun later this year. My wife's family cat has apparently grown extra thick fur the past few weeks, so you have been warned...if that's not a sign I don't know what is ;)

"Red sky at night - shepherds' delight."

"Hairy puissy - frosty morning."

I'm probably being dumb but which way? More pressure when colder or less? And why?

Air in the tyre is colder so molecules are moving around less which means there's less pressure. hence why you should always check your tyres cold, because driving a few miles to the garage will raise the pressures.

Speaking of jacks, the missus's i20 had a tyre replaced a while ago...

UK Outlook for Friday 25 Nov 2011 to Friday 9 Dec 2011:

Generally unsettled conditions should bring occasional spells of rain interspersed with drier, clearer weather. Temperatures are likely to continue to be a little above average in many areas during the first part of the period, particularly in southern Britain

This information is probably deep in the thread somewhere but I thought the above reckoner might be useful if someone was looking to cut costs on a mytyre package and get the rims off a scrappie. If I end up getting a set (we will need at least one car that will actually work if it gets bad). Looking at a set of 15 steelies that will do a 500 and a A500 it's peculiar how the offset changed to E40 from the E35 of the 14inch steelie. The steelies of the Stilo seem a good match for a A500.
Also some individuals are getting steelies off Ford. They stock the same size wheels as Fiat and some are getting them at £30 a rim (they're €46 & €64 + vat here before discount).

The info has been posted a few times but when there are well over a thousand posts in the thread it doesn't hurt to have it reposted! :)

don't knock it i'm enjoying not being a steelie wheel whore yet and savouring those 16s

Thanks dude, I ordered the tyres a few days back, should be here tomorrow or Monday. Oh I went for 14" as we will be keeping the TA for a few years or at least pass it to the girls if I ever get the A500, will worry about 15" winter tyres at that time.

RUI, you got any hubcaps lying around ?

Arorat you sure you need winter tires in London right now? From what i see the temp hasnt fallen below 7c yet and we are already mid november! If i remember correctly, in 2 years of driving in london i felt i only needed the winter tires once!

Ahmett, true, last winter was bad in London I recall 6 months of cold, however this winter is summer. We need both cars this year so will fit when temps drop.

If temps don't drop I will curse maxi for making me spend £400+ only kidding :) makes a lot of sense in buying and you have to think of summer/winter shoes and how F1 change tyres for track conditions. You know all this, it's for newcomers, if they get this far !!
