Sipes! This is getting bad.

I'll get this thread back on track!(y)

I am taking my car to the tyre fitters tomorrow morning to get them changed over. There you go.

:p

Is there a reason why you haven't bought a spare set of rims to save you the trouble? Sometimes you can pick up a rim for a tenner, surely would be worth it in the long run. Sorry, I'm not meaning to be 'up myself', just thinking about the hassle you have to go through getting your tyres mounted.

No probs!

I've bought the steel wheels as well (like a few others on here) as it was a very good deal (effectively I got 4 winter tyres for around £100 if you take the RRP of a brand new 14" steel wheel).

There is something about this earlier on in the thread but I'm not sure if it's on page 1,049,954 or 1,049,955 of this thread....(y)

I still wouldn't pay someone else to do it ;) Just make sure they don't knacker your sills!

Yes Maxi, I couldn't agree more. I learned a very harsh lesson with my old Primera, which incidentally was a fantastic car, one of the best I've owned.

Anyway, over the ten years I had it with numerous tyre changes, many of the tyre shops I visited didn't give a monkeys about where they put the freaking jack and caused untold damage to the sills I know this is completely over the top, but not only do I have a full size spare for my Cadillac (which I had to buy because they only give you tyre foam), but I also bought a 16 inch temporary thus allowing me when the time comes to pull off for arguments sake, the two front wheels, stick the spares on and then take the wheels which need new tyres to the tyre shop. It is an extreme amount of faff I know, but at least I know my Caddy's sills wont get stuffed up by some fitter who couldn't care less.

Having a full set of spare rims and tyres for the 500, I will treat the wife's car with similar respect.

Yeah I always take rims to the tyre place rather than the whole car. Minimises the amount of damage they can do.

I went back into the garage today and put some air back into the Vredestein's.
2.3 bar front, 2.2 bar rear in accordance with the recommendations on the website. (I'm ultra sad but ever so slightly efficient 'coz I've put sticky labels on the wheels so I don't get confused!)

Still waiting for the temp to drop a bit before I shove em on though.

Just put them on :)

Looking at the forecast for Birmingham it's going to be near freezing on Sunday night. Personally I'd just change over, you're not going to see any temperatures at which you'll find the winter tyres being a liability :) It's wet anyway so the winter tyres will be great in those conditions.

Just been talkin to the wife an hour ago about exactly this and I've decided to do it on Sunday.

Got mine fitted today - took the car to Mid Devon Tyres down in Crediton who did a top job today - very efficient and friendly.

The guy there originally only wanted to charge me a fiver for changing them all over but I gave them a tenner as I felt I was robbing them for that little money.

Anyway - the new tyres feel great so far. This morning was very nippy, and there's a bend near to where we live which always feels a bit slippy on the factory fitted Conti EcoContacts even when the weather's warm!

With the Vredis the car stuck to the road much better (and the effects of the usual body roll at that speed were much less). Will certainly be interesting to see what they are like when it gets colder/wetter etc.

i will stick this in here too

there are a lot of winter part worn tyres coming over from germany and being sold at part worn tyre places and ebay, warning there is a reason that the germans take them off when they get to 4mm they dont work anymore in snow, so dont waste money buying any with what may seem a lot of tread, what is legal and ok for summer tread is useless for winter tyres

I would definitely agree with NOT buying part worn tyres. The performance on snow and ice is almost completely down to the sipes and once you get down to 4mm the sipes will be almost gone and by the time you get to 3mm they'll be completely gone.

Spied this today. Good on Sainsburys, at least their customers will be getting groceries this winter if it does snow :)

Probably the leasing company forced them to? If a car is leased I guess they ask you go to service every october and change them! Its at no cost for sainsburys (part of the lease) so i guess for sure they do it!

Unless the truck is owned by sainsburys, but i doubt that for some reason = )
