Hello all.

I have recently bought a motorhome with the 2.8idtd engine. (2000 Fiat Autotrail) Which engine oil and grade should I be using?

Help appreciated as I havnt been on these forums for some years.

If you ask in a motor factors or go to Halfrauds they should tell you, but personally as a HGV mechanic I'd not worry too much , if all else fails go for a quality semisynthetic 10W40 diesel engine oil. The vital standard is the S/C code, you'll see on the back of oil cans things like SJ/CM the S & C stand for Spark or Compression ignition (petrol or diesel) then the higher the letter the better the spec of the oil. Eg I've just looked a my can of £9.99 Home bargains semisynthetic & its rated SL/CG
Hope this helps?

Any decent brand mineral or semi synthetic oil, 10W40, or even 15W40.

I put 15W40 semi synthetic in my 2001 2.8 JTD

I'd never put anything thinner than 10W40 oil in, as the engine oil seals on these older beasts weren't designed for that and can't cope, and will start weeping....which if it's the gearbox shaft end can then contaminate your clutch.
