Hi folks ..
Thanking you for previous help and advice which proved invaluable,,,,,
I have noticed the oil level rising on the dip stick ..I have disconnected the diesel going to heater plug .... Changed the hand primer pump ,but had to re fit the original one back as van would not start, when either of the new ones were fitted to it ...I fear maybe the stroke not enough to make contact with shaft to drive it .....
Could it be one of the injectors or injector pump, causing the leak ,,
Any and all help greatly appreciated,...
Thanks a million .....

Engine series, size, age, etc.?

Hi sorry..Ducato ...2.5 TDI...1989...in a campervan...8144.21..engine....
Thanks, that helps.:)
I would probably suggest having the injectors tested, but would suspect a lot of smoke on starting, even a partial hydraulic lock if bad enough and general smoke as driving along possibly, as symptoms if badly dripping nozzles.
The lift pump would have been my second choice if diaphragm perforated, but would have suspected problems when starting due to fuel draining away.
Is there any signs of diesel around the inside base of that lift pump? Many years ago when working at a Moskvich Dealership the boss took a vehicle back with bad engine knocking so paid very little, on inspection I found the lift pump was filling the sump with petrol so diluting the engine oil, a new diaphragm and an oil change and the boss had a good "part /ex deal" to sell on as bearings then were quiet!
Re the injector pump, a friends old digger had that issue, which we traced to a looses front gear pulley bolt allowing movement where the seal sits in the end of the high pressure injection pump.
However in that case it was gear driven so the diesel ran straight into the sump, yours being a belt driven camshaft, ( I assume) I cannot see how the diesel would then enter the sump.
In your case I don't think there is any other way the injector pump has a return to the sump from memory.
However it is mounted on that large housing containing the oil filler/oil filter/oil cooler, etc. So maybe further inspection required there. Perhaps others can advise as to that possibility.:)
Re the lift pump again, is there any way to unbolt the pump but leave the pipes connected and work the lever mechanism to see if any signs of a leak past the diaphragm, obviously if rigid pipes than not possible to test that way.

Pump and fit on old one ......I may remove oil in sump and replace .. thanks again for all your help..it is much appreciated....

It may be possible to swap diaphragms, but many pattern ones are likely to be a different design, especially on the actuating rod.:(
Good to change oil, it will give some protection.
