a quick question for you clever bobs out there

i presently have a fiat marea 97 R reg 2.0 20v, and have been quoted £510 for a cambelt, tensioner and antifreeze change + courtesy car, which i am quite happy with all things considered (Foremark, Leics).

The only thing is from the info that he got off the plate from the engine bay he reckons that the engine has variable valve timing (Quoted me £610 with the variable valve tensioner changed as well). i thought only the newer 155 mareas/.bravos had these, or am i getting my bravos and mareas mixed up

have i got this wrong

cheers

i think its the 155bhp engines that have variable timing as well. i'm sure i remember the motoring press saying something along the lines that 'thanks to variable inlet geometry, the power has been inceased to 155bhp'

Re: Re: Which emgine

What I think he means is that there are two tnesioners on the engine, a fixed tensioner and a variable tensioner. This has nothing to do with the Variable inlet stuff. In my mind (yeah I know!) to be a "tensioner" it has to be variable otherwise it wouldnt tension! The "other" tensioner is actually just a bearing. Get it all changed!
