Where to put the axle stands?

Hi

Currently, when I raise my car, I'm putting the axle stands under the jacking point on the sill. However, it is very awkward as that's kinda where the jack is as well!!

I saw another thread that mentioned there is a plate that is about the same size as the stands where they can be put. This thread has pictures, but I can't see any of them :(

Please would someone post a picture of where this plate is (or a good description of where they are on the car)

Thanks.

Axel stands

If you look under the car, there is a area on the floorpan for trolley jacks/car lifts etc. It's inboard and forward of the front sill jacking points. Looks like a raised plate with a circular hole in it. Pop out to your car and look, I can't be arsed taking a picture for something that is so easy to see.

At the rear however, I haven't a clue as I've never had to put it on axle stands.

Thanks. Can't look at it now will look tonight.

Just to clarify, is that plate where I put the jack or the axle stands?

Sorry for all these newbie questions :(

jacking...

Use the marked sill points to jack with the standard jack, as described in the owners manual. The jack has a slot in it for the sill seam. Put a n axle stand here you might damage the sill seam. The plate I've described is good for putting your axle stands under.

However, with a non standard jack (eg trolley jack)don't jack on the sill seam, you could bugger it (again, as it doesn't have the slot), jacking would be better done on the plate.

If you really need to put axle stands under the standard jacking points you can modify a 2inch square piece of wood with a slot cut to suit, and use this on the axle stand.

Jacking, a complicated business.....

Thanks for clearing that up. Now of to dismantle the missus' shelves for the wood ;)

Picture of plate for axle stand

Thanks Waderider. The plate was exactly as you described it.

For the benefit of anyone who might wonder what it looks like, here's the pic:

i use a trolley jack to raise mine and not that scary temporary jack that came with the car..
I cut a slot in a bit of scrap wood and use it on the temp jacking point.
i always imagined thats what everyone did?
and why are they called axle stands if you dont rest the axles on them? ;)

re

I've always used a trolley jack on that point pictured above, or on a wishbone somewhere, and i normally use a piece of wood inbeteen jack and car anyway? dunno why just always have lol,

depends what you need to get to and how high you need to get the car really!

sure you will have done it by now!

Bits of wood....
