ZE512, ZE912 or FK452?

What is Falken’s plant code on the tyre wall? – interested to know where these originate.

I’m advised Falken tyres come from the Goodyear-Dunlop envelope. The ZE512 & ZE912 are described as “all season” – when some view `all season’ tyres as neither Arthur or Martha, & fall short in either role.

The ZE512 came out of the Ohtsu Tire & Rubber plant in Miyazaki, Japan. In the 03/2007 ADAC tyre test, the 205/55R16 V (Croma Dynamic) size, was placed bottom of the league – due to bad performance in the wet, with 5.3 marks (the worst possible marking is 5.5). The Tread carefully Which? (Mar2007) report declared “These tyres are safe but performed badly in the wet” and went on to advise:

“Three 205/55R16 Vs fall short of standards we think acceptable: the Marangoni Vanto; the Nankang Ultra Sport NS-2; and, the worst, the Falken Ziex ZE512 which needs 12.3m more to stop than the best in this size” … that’s about 2½ Croma lengths.

Then the ZE512 is out-of-the-question (& obsolete anyway) - & I don’t think the ZE912 is available in the 225/45R18 95Y (Prestigio) spec. I’m left with the FK452.

Just to conclude this thread - in the end I found a set of Croma 17" alloys from Hills Salvage via ebay - these came with Kumho KU19 tyres with around 5mm tread left at £400 for the set.

One tyre had tread damage like it'd skidded on glass so kept an eye on it and sure enough it had a slow puncture so decided to replace both tyres on the front with Falken ZE-912's (215/50/17) at £120 for the pair from www.camskill.co.uk - as I also had a steering wheel vibration at certain speeds I got all 4x wheels balanced and the 2x Falkens fitted for £30 all in by a local place. Much better with low noise and excellent grip now over the random cheap tyres on the 16's along with finally eliminating any vibration.

Oh and just to add - two of the centre caps had some of the plastic retaining lugs broken off so lost them after a while of driving, got replacements from Fiat with the metal retaining rings for £16 each.
