As above. RAC told me the potentiometer had failed.

Thanks in advance.

Is this the headlight alignment switch? Can get one from a scrapper. Unless it is off the ra

According to Haynes, the throttle potentiometer is integral with the idle actuator. So it may be an idle actuator you are looking for.

Also according to Haynes,on later models the potentiometer is integral with the throttle body.

So first, you will need to find out which yours is. If it is part of the throttle body. it may be like the 1.4 and you will need to renew the complete throttle body.

Hope this helps.

fiat have the part but its very expensive i was wondering where else i can get one. Also they sell it seperately.

Everyhing you buy from fiat is expensive, Try the scrappers. These are usually reliable components so you should get a good one from a scrapyard

If I were you, I would change the whole throttle body + idle control valve with a scrapyard one. The throttle position sensor is integrated into the ICV, but you could have a fault with the TB itself. If you swap the lot, you know you've got a working unit. I got one for my 1999 1.2 brava a couple of weeks ago. £45 from Fiat Base in Birmingham (0121 3335296). I can definitely recommend them if you are anywhere near. They have a mountain of bravo/as in all the time and they certainly know what they are talking about.

Just be aware that there is a possibility that you will need to get it on the Fiat examiner to rezero and relearn the idle adjustment if you disturb any of these components. I had no problem, but the manual says differently.

Cheers for posting this up for me Adam and for all your help through this difficult time! It's gonna be with a garage in Bristol, I've borrowed a 1.4 gsi Metro for the week! I've ordered the parth from parts gateway and the guy on the phone said they had one that was to do with a throttle cable and one that was 'fly by wire'.

Please say I went for the right one!!! It's being delivered down to my grans 2morrow morning and being fitted over the next day or so. I'm a bit worried it's not gonna be the right fix now, the RAC diagnostic definately said throttle positioning sensor (potentiometer).

Re-assurance anyone??!

Rusty, Alex W, do you reckon I've ordered the right part, I'm in Manchester now ans the car's in Bristol, a tad worried now!!

Depends on exactly what you ordered. As far as I'm aware all the 1.2s are cable-operated throttles. I'm assuming that you have ordered the whole TB. Did you make sure the ICV came with it?

Umm....nope. I ordered the 'fly-by-wire' one as the guy on the phone called it. Just ordered the potentiometer I think, not the whole throttle body as Fiat gave me the impression it was not the full throttle body I needed.

Bol*ocks, please tell me I haven't ordered the wrong thing, the poor Bravo is stranded in Bristol with a mechanic waiting for the part that I have ordered without him looking at it.

Bol*ocks...

OK. I've got off my ass and looked in the manual and 2000-on models were updated with fly by wire, with a potentiometer on the accelerator pedal. The TPS is available separately from the throttle body so it looks like you have ordered the right thing.

Cheers Rusty, I can chill a bit now, was pannicking aswell cos the part hadn't been delivered. Just got off the phone to my Nan and it got delivered as we got off the phone so fingers crossed, panic over.

Cheers for everyones help!!
