What's up with my crazy ticking rear wiper!!?!?!?!

Every once in a while, I find a constant quick ticking noise coming from somewhere in the rear. It's coming from somewhere in the rear wiper setup.
it ticks constantly, about 2 ticks per second, and only stops when the rear wiper is actually in operation. That's if the rear wiper decides to work. It's always worked fine, except when it's in this ticking mood.
Yesterday I had to put up with the ticking for the whole of a 30 minute journey! Just had to crank up the sounds!

Any ideas? Is this just what it does when the rear wiper gives up??

Try cleaning or replacing the four springy contact things on the left hand side of the underneath of the boot lid, if that makes any sense. It fixed my ticking wiper anyway.

Mine did the same. It is when the motor gets weak. When the coil isn't strong enough to operate the gearbox connected to the wiper arm.

I unplugged mine when it was in it's normal off position. Looks how it suppose too and will not fail an MOT. I will be replacing mine but no rush for me.
