go to apple.com download latest version of iTunes. Just like windows media files but you can set it to convert files to mp3's rather than wma's

Re: Re: Whats the best CD ripping software,

cheers ry, ill give it a try

Re: Re: Re: Whats the best CD ripping software,

Doesnt Windows Media Player 9 do that for you?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats the best CD ripping software,

yup Media player nine will do it on the fly at up to 192 (128 is standard 192 gives a noticably better sound but makes 50% larger files)

I want to die peacefully in my sleep like grandpa, not screaming like the passengers in his car!

Hi,

If your considering ripping cds then forget mp3, there is a util out called cdex - yopu can get this on www.download.com. This is a free program that is the best ripping util out there. Further more, it allows you to rip to Ogg Vorbis, which when compared to the same bit rate of an mp3 is remarkably better quality.

All cds that i rip onto my pc now, go in ogg vorbis format usually 320 kbps, or if space is not on your side 190kbps.

John

Just one thing...when this guy ever wants play his music through his car MP3 player..or home MP3 player...
no mate sorry stick with burning them as MP3 that way your discs will be compatible with all MP3 software..I'm maybe ignorant here is this ogg vorbis compatible with MP3 players as well?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats the best CD ripping software,

I echo what John said. I have now converted to CDex, it uses the LAME encoder for MP3 and is faster than most. I encode at constant 160kps, be careful what you use as your car head unit will not support Ogg and unlikely to support variable bit rate MP3s, WMA and very high (or very low) bit rate MP3s.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats the best CD ripping software,

Hi,

Yeah mp3 cd players will not support .ogg files, but if you are using the .ogg vorbis format to backup, then if you decide to burn a cd again from the compressed format - the quality of the outputted cd will be amazing!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats the best CD ripping software,

youve kinda all lost me, lol, i HAVE to convert my cds to mp3 format, thats what this whole post is all about?as i have an MP3 player in my car, i already have some software but it only lets me take the 1st 5 tracks off a cd, where as i want to take every track of a cd, the program i use is called AltoMP3 converter, so any more suggestions?

cheers for the answers on the other format but that kind of format simply wont play in my car stereo,

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats the best CD ripping software,

YES - CDEx!.

It's a cd ripper, but allows you to output several different formats. Click link now and be a happy man.

cdex always makes my computer crash, any other programes i could use?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats the best CD ripping software,

I use AudioCatalyst, not sure on the link, but it downloads the track listing, album name etc. using CDDB on the web. It can then copy the tracks encoding them as it goes, and names them accordingly creating album name folders as well if you wish. Very Easy to use, takes about 6 mins to do a disc on my machine. It sometimes strugles on the last track on the newer copy protected discs, but there's ways round it :)

Re: Re: Whats the best CD ripping software,

Well, my 2 cents.....

I've always used Windows Media Player 9. Rips @ 320kbps, downloads tracklisting and album covers and makes fine CD's.

Oh, and it's free ;)
