WTF is it???

No Uno Turbo will fry it's pistons, running at 1.4Bar, but I wouldn't advise it with a standard airbox and normal petrol. It'll just wear the ****er out pretty rapidly. plus this doesn't account for the massive clutch slip you'll get with a standard clutch... but mostly... WHAT DOES IT DO???

It doesn't say! It just implies it'll give better fuel economy and not fry pistons???

Biz WTF IS IT?? Find out what the bloke thinks it is.

I looked at the description and it stated a CHIP.............but it is to do with the turbo pressure..............some one has been ripped! lol

Would touch it with a barge pole mate
 
I contacted the seller about his fish and chips "chip" and here is the reply i got

The description is in the auction, its a boost pressure regulator, i.e it regulates the boost pressure electronically to prevent over boosting, basically if your turbo provides too much boost you have an incorrect fuel to air ratio, if the fuel is too lean you will put a hole in the top of your piston, if you look at the inlet manifold top rleft in your engine bay you will see a lead with two spade terminals connecting the factory regulator, ( you may have disconnected this if you have upped the boost), this item replaces this and allows an uprated boost to be run safely, you dont need one to increase boost but you run the risk of overboosting. Overboosting works a bit like a speed wobble on a motorbike, once it starts to overboost you cannot catch it unless you have a regulator, thats why one is fitted as standard and thats why one is supplied when buy a superchips mod. Its best to learn what your engine does before modifying it, all turbo engines are similar, and any mechanically / electronically minded person would understand this. No more questions please, I have owned Uno turbos for 10 years and dont need to justify myself I know my stuff.

My view of a "chip" is what goes into an ECU as in computers

That peice of thing is a physically adjusting item IMO

It may use electrics to control it but i wouldnt/wont ever increase boost pressure using stupid valves................a proper actuator is what im gona use or i wont touch the turbo at all

Its a pikey way of killing a turbo and fooking about with AF mixtures

But whats to say that SPADE clipped thing wont fall off?? :confused:

Would be useful if you're the kind of person who's REALLY careful about his cars.
Could do a decent factory inc. to 1.0BAR mod with that. Wouldn't mind it if I was restoring a UT.
 
OK, well let's analyse it technically then.

What he is selling is a boost pressure switch. It does nothing to regulate the boost; it is just a 'safety net' in the same way that the original switch (calibrated to 0.8bar if I remember correctly) causes the ignition to cut out when the boost reaches this upper limit.

We all know that the boost pressure is set by the wastegate opening, which you can control with a bleed valve in the wastegate actuator pressure supply.

What he is trying to allude to is Electronic Boost Control (not fitted to the Uno, fitted in a crude form to the Croma Turbo) which is where the pressure to the wastegate actuator is electronically controlled (on the Croma Turbo, to give an 'overboost' setting under controlled conditions - full-throttle, limited time). Ideally, electronic boost control drives a solenoid to control the wastegate directly to modify the boost curve (the rate at which boost occurs, as well as the upper limit).

This pressure switch simply cannot do this. He may have owned Uno Turbos for ten years, but he is not understanding the full ramifications of what he says. Yes, you can melt a piston through overboosting, and yes, this pressure switch will prevent this overboosting from occurring. But the actual performance gains are caused by a bleed valve (or uprated turbo/actuator), not this switch.

I consider myself to be quite mechanically/electronically minded ;) but if anyone would like to correct me or add more info, please do!

I learnt the hard way and expensive way of meesing about with boost levels

Never again but if i do it will be a permanent level
