I remember a friend of mine who was really into science telling me in response to a similar complaint I made "Come on, go easy on them, they are literally predicting the future"
That’s their job and, I would only call it prediction if they got it right…there used to be a guy on tv, Calendar or Look North in the seventies, that they’d go to after the official forecast and he’d give his ‘old wives tales’ type forecasts, I don’t think they’re any better now!

When they moved the Met Office from London to Exeter some years ago I thought at least a chance of improvement, but many times I feel if they looked out of their window they could predict more accurately, but hey ho they are probably all working from "home" in the South of France. :):):)

I hope they crushed it, if only from an aesthetic point of view.;););)
It can’t be made legal for uk roads because it would never pass the required safety tests because of its shape, the person who was driving it was doing so with the intention of making it road legal (which is impossible) and had been driving it completely illegally on dodgy foreign insurance, bringing the car into the country via an Eastern European country and driving it on foreign plates, but was also stupid and posted it all over the internet. He’s quite well known so I think the police were already on the look out for him knowing full well how dodgy the car was

For some reason this seems like it needs to be here..

Wife is now 7 months along so finding walking a bit difficult depending where baby is lying.

As a result she drove to the school with my son today, this is a conversation she had as relayed to me.

"Have you just got a car noticed you're driving recently?"

"We've always had one"

"Have you just got your license?"

"No, had that 14 years as well"

"But I see you walking most days, why?"

"Because I like to"

"But why?"

Good to know everyone assumes we walk due to not having a car... rather than you know living within walking distance of the flipping school because why would you walk???

I'd love to know how much octopus have in interest free loans from customers.

I've posted before about them insisting we pay 270 a month every month...to cover usage. This was set on the basis of our average usage with a back boiler also with as far as I can tell next door likely nicking electric..or at least us being charged twice.

They still insist we pay 270 quid a month...despite the fact this month we've had probably the coldest January/December in the last 5 years, the house has been set to 20.5 degrees during the day and we've still not achieved that figure, we've not got within 50 quid of it.

At this point my wife just uses it as a savings account and draws it down whenever she needs a bit of extra cash for the holidays or something. In summer they're overcharging by about 400% rather than 30%.

I think the Utility companies use it as you say "interest free loans", years ago BT had enough from my business phone account for three quarters until I got them to address it.
A bit like banks with business accounts, several thousand in it , but they still charge for "managing" the account and once a year they would ask you to come in and discuss your "overdraft facility" even though I never used it and later when I checked my statement I found a nice lump of money taken out for that service, so I cancelled it.

Leaving Swindon on the way home from shopping, there was a thump and a light clang sound. In the left mirror, was a rear silencer on the road. There hadn't been one ahead of me, so that was mine then. Nothing scraping, so a quick turn around and park in a convenient drive.
Meanwhile, a 'helpful' driver of a Land Rover/Range Rover Discovery/Evoke/Sport, had stopped to move it from the gutter to the verge.
I ttook a few minutes to cross the busy road and walk along the verge, then fish it out of the brambles. 'Helpful' had not just placed it on the grass, but tossed it into the brambles, but that's a Land Rover owner for you.
At this time of year, the brambles are sparse, so no damage to me retrieving it. I had a complete stainless system fitted many years ago. Centre pipe seemed fine, glancing under the back of the car, and the silencer seems fine, apart from some mild scratches. The simple clamp has rusted well, and presumably relaxed its grip, allowing the two parts to separate. So that's a job for tomorrow, raise the rear, crawl under and assess. System has a lifetime warranty, so if damaged, looks like a trip to Bristol, making noise, but at first glance looks like needs a clamp. The rubber hangers are probably feeling sorry for themselves, but I've got some of those.
Carrying it along the verge, and waiting to re-cross the busy road, a truck driver stopped, holding the traffic on one side. Very kind. I bet he's not a Land Rover owner.
No worries, 2 other vehicles to use meanwhile.

Sorry to hear of your tribulations - lucky that truck wasn't right behind you and squashed it flat!

This failure illustrates how we all need to think carefully when substituting parts like this. In your case the system did not rust, as was the intention, but the clamp, I presume being a standard side clamp or similar? did. it can have unexpected knock on problems too - for instance here the rubber hangers can be expected to perish long before the system fails.

This made me chuckle. Presumably as a landrover owner he's used to bits dropping off and lobbing them in the brambles with little hope of correctly reattaching them.

Even the new ones are bad for it. I knew someone who bought a brand new Evoke, and within the first few days half the letters for the "range rover" badge along the front edge of the bonnet fell off, then she was left waiting about a month for a replacement on a brand new car !

All back together this morning, running quietly again.
Old clamp, steel U-bolt type looked like it might fight removal, but where it had rusted and released its clamping force, I wriggle it a bit and slid it off. Win!
Beign stainless, the silencer pipe and centre pipe only needed a wipe. Slid back together easily. Bit of a juggle engaging the pipe and both rear mounts simultaneously. Clamp is now a stainless band clamp, so should stay, and look lovely too, should anyone wish to lie underneath.
