I've lost track of what's legal now; are speed camera detectors legal? Was there ever a reliable camera jamming device that acted fast enough to be effective? I collect old electronic equipment, and would be most interested in acquiring things for my `collection'. Obviously, anything that's now illegal to use would be for display purposes only(y)

GPS based speed camera detectors are legal, and endorsed as fitting in with the government's policy of speed enforcement. Not sure about laser detectors, though fairly sure they are now illegal when the road traffic act were updated last year. Think radar detectors are in the same boat.

Keep up collecting retro electronics, I got into electronics when i was about 13 (1977) when i built the radio out of the ladybird book, and love meddling with stuff I dont really have a use for..............

Thanks John,

My take on speed cameras are that if, as the government says, they are sited at accident blackspots only, then any advance warning I get of where they are would of course make me a safer driver(y) Cameras sited on the exit side of traffic lights just before the limit changes from 30 to 50 are there for one reason only; to raise money. If their sensors were mysteriously melted one dark and stormy night....................

not related to the speed camrea thing, but still trying to figure out the receiver in your avatar, poss early aiwa or marantz???????????

Any device that 'jammed' the police equipment has always been illegal. Its called perverting the course of justice I think.

I know there's a difference. The jammers didn't work and there was no point to a detector.
Just like them numpties with cd's in the grill's of the escorts, if anything, that gave a better reflection than the normal tactics.

Halfords used to sell a modular speed camera detector... which you could order jammers for i recently saw an "error jammer" which worked by sending back a signal to the camera that caused an error message to display :D

rite in terms of detectors they are all legal, no matter wat the type, gps laser and radar as they just show you that a speed camera is in ther area, which they usually have 2 signpost anyway with the white sign indicating speed cameras operating in the area. most sat navs are now coming with all the fixed camera preloaded on to them. bt all of the mobile ones tend 2 b useless as such, laser is a good example. wen it detects the laser you literally have about 2 seconds to slow down but some of the new laser guns can detect your speed from up to two miles away. jammers are illegal, they send out a constant signal which dispurses the signal going towards the car so they cant get a reading, all the police man sees is one error code which can be caused by him moving the gun ever so slightly etc so he doesnt know for def you have one, but if he pulls you for it you have to prove that your "intended" use for it is legal, etc, open a security gate/ garage door or security light is my favourite, lol. but theyre not as easy to get a hold off, if you query about to the right people you can usually always get your hands on, kit can cost you bout 250 on its own but theyre not easy to fit, 300-350 installed. hope that helps (y)
