I'm still here, although I have chosen not to participate in this forum for the last few months for a number of reasons.

Firstly, I have been working away a lot and haven't had the time or inclination to post.

Secondly, I am increasingly saddended by the attitudes and behaviour of many people on here. It seems that in the last 6 months, this place has just sunk into a mire of crap. Hundreds of pointless posts about pointless subjects, and that's the on topic stuff !! OT threads have always been a bone of contention with many people and personally, I have never had a problem with them, so long as they are clearly marked and not just worthless crap. Unfortunately that hasn't been the case of late.

Also, there was a huge raft of "political" rants with people badgering each other with the "opinions" and "beliefs", some of which bordered on (and in some cases breached) the lines of what is deemed offensive and insulting. These threads also involved senior members of this club and that disappointed me.

There are certain individuals who, although in the minority, are spoiling the whole BOO forum experience. They know who they are and I'm not naming names. Many members have contacted me privately over the last few months and the same names keep cropping up.

There is a time and place for all types of posts. What many forget is that this is a car forum, designed to benefit owners of a particular marque. If I was a new owner coming here, I'd not be hanging around for very long based on what I can see here, and this is potentially discouraging new members, whose funding and involvement keep this place going. Eventually, the beligerence shown by many members will result in BOO becoming unsustainable and closing altogether.

I've been here for 5 and a half years now and seen many "users" come and go. We've always had our fair share of numpties, but recently this population has grown. I'll be totally honest and say that I truly believe this to be down to the fact that the Bravo range is now affordable to new, young drivers. Kids who have just passed their test and are pumped full of testosterone, thinking that they can buy a 1.2 and turn it into a 150mph street racer. A lot of these individuals are absolutely fine, but there are more and more people appearing who have no respect or regard for fellow users and this in turn leads to trolling and flame fests. The level of abusive anonymous postings seems to have increased too and there is little we can do about that with the current forum format.

At the end of the day, this place has become somewhere I am a lot less fond of staying around. I have much better things to do and more constructive ways of spending my time than to have to fend off ignorant trolls and posters of constant, unintelligible nonsense. Yes, I am a moderator, but I also have a life outside of BOO, as do all the mods and Wimmy too. A moderators job should be minimal work. Other users should have the decency, integrity and respect for others, not to post crap and to understand what this place is for and, more importantly, what it is not for.

Those are my reasons why I haven't been around and every time I think it might be getting better, certain people very quickly prove me wrong and it all falls down again.

I can't speak for the other people that haven't been around much lately, but I do know that I am not alone in my thoughts and sentiments, not by a long shot.

Anyway, rant over :)

Ta-ra !

I know my name wasn't mentioned but i've just logged in and seen this and thought i'd let you know why i haven't been around for a while.
My Brava died and was replaced by an Alfa 156
Even so i've been lurking in the back ground and chirping up when i see the need to.
I've also noticed the level of numpties increase drematically though as Roberto has said these people have also been coming and going (thankfully) for aas long as i can remember.
Like Roberto i've been on here for over 5 years and seen many good people come and go.
I'm sticking around but not posting as much as i have done in the past due to many different reasons that some of you will be aware of but when i can i will be around if not to post i'll still be reading the comments and hopefully if everyone thinks about what there saying before they hit the send key this place will continue to go from strength to strength.

Indeed ! Preview is your friend :)

I find that if I hit that button first and read through what I have just typed, I sometimes realise a few things and word it differently or even just not bother posting at all.

Have to say i agree with Roberto, i dont come on here much as there's little point sometimes, you get very few answers to your questions, often because they get bumped off the page so fast. I have no problem with random posts but i think its time they were separate.

I like helping new folks out and pointing them in the right direction of solving probs ect, but i dont have time and cant be arsed reading through pages of stuff to find something i can help with.

Hence why i now hang out about fiatforum.com

As when i double post on there and here i get the answers i need fast, reliably and with no anonymous tossers smart mouthing. And if i want to chat about something there is a clearly defined place to do it.

If i came to this site today as a new semi mature member ie 24-25 i would walk away, just what i think and i think things have to change somehow or else we'll loose all the folks like Roberto etc from the club.

I'm in the same boat as Rab but I agree with the Rob and Mountain. I'm moving ever more towards lurking on this site as most of the threads aren't relevant to anything really.

I'm on FS/AO most of the time now.

I have also been working away and in a weeks time will be working away again (for2-4 weeks).
Still i have to agree with some of the above ,there is plenty of chat rooms for talking rubbish or about things that could be found using the search button?
This was and i would like to think one of the better car forums please lets not spoil it Amen..

Well i agree and i dont because i feel that this forum is more like a community all brought together by the love of the car, i will say this however.......When i joined 3months ago(the first thing i did afta passing my test) i felt welcomed. And i wanted to post and add my comment to stupid OT threads and i think thats what makes this forum better than the rest because not only is it a place to get all the tried and tested ways to get the best driving experiance possible, but we can all have a laugh and have fun.

lol yeah and a cool ps3 team lol

which will be forming again pretty soon lol

Donny and Nick any chance we can get back on topic, thank you.

i`m posted this up in respect to the fact that
1. i don`t want to cause offence OR an arguement
2. since bein on here from when i bought my car which was in October 2006 i`ve noticed the lack of regular people

i`m in NO way havin a go at people as they have there own reasons for not bein on here add to the fact that they also have lives to lead like everyone else,
sometimes when i come on here there usually is a good number of people on here askin advice or postin stuff that is a good read
the only thing that bothers me is now it seems is posts about pointless/useless things, not mentioning any names here, and to be fair the forum isn`t what it used to be and its this that i`m thinkin the regular people have gone away from here which would be sad if thats the case :(

Bravo, why settle for less 1.8GT BRAVO

well i hear what ya saying mate but int that little convo what youre onabout (comunity) i know people think i talk **** but to be honest if this site was just about cars and nothing else there wouldnt be as many people stay cos people cant talk about cars 24/7 can they i mean maybe it needs a ot room like the fiat forums but to be honest i cant see what the problem is axcept from the anons, i mean if people like them are allowd to continue with there abuse that is what going to pt people off, i am fed up of reading some prats post slagging me off especialy as i hate bullies and if i met anybody like that in real life they woldnt be bullying anybody, i know people are fed up abot e asking questions about tuning but to be fair i am a paid member wanting to learn about tuning etc and that not all time people agree with me i always appriciate people putting me wright on things.

everybody needs to lighten up really and be allowed there own views. come you must agree with what i saying dont ya, i wouldnt even know people like ryan, tez, chris, big al i was even on the phone for atleast half an hour to justin aka jayfish, its because of general chit chat that i know these people.

blood hell my fingers hurt now lol

I know we do it on fiatscotland but you could have a members only off topic forum section, and all other tech and info bits can be posted on by annon. But that does mean logging in etc to post which isnt a problem at home but might be at work.

Its been previously mentioned but ultimately the 'audience' of this forum has lowered in age and what I find personally annoying is a massive increase in 'text speak'. Its a real pet hate.

I'm not saying the younger generation are all useless at formulating constructive and quintessentially english sentences, but there is a frustating amount of people on this forum that will slip into skipping letters. You are using a keyboard and effectively have 10 fingers at your disposal - not 1 thumb!

I appreciate that a few of the regulars here have issues with spelling and I'm more than happy to overlook that but when people start failing to bother to type properly, I can't be bothered to read or reply. Simple.

My approach to the forum has changed. The threads I start are no different (whether on topic or off topic) in style to any of the many previous years I've been here but I now assess the grief of responding to another thread. Bit like a threat assessment. I'm more than happy to help anyone out, just can't be doing with dealing with inept simpletons who will send a thread into a slanging match.

I think its a great shame. This forum was once a very respected and knowledgeable source for all things Brava/o. Ok, it still is, but the experienced and more wiser participants have been silenced and consequently are less likely to assist those in genuine need of help.

I look, read, maybe reply and attend as many shows as I can. But for me, thats as far as it'll go.

I had put my name down for a contender to be a mod when Sven and TommyK were 'promoted' a few months back. I thought about it and realised it was just too much grief and would rather just do my own thing here (and thus asked Wimmy to remove my name). Had I been in same position a couple of years back, I would have kept my name in the hat. Thats not to say I would have been voted in, but at least I would have wanted the chance to be.

I know things, people and life changes. Sadly its not always for the good.

"I look, read, maybe reply and attend as many shows as I can. But for me, thats as far as it'll go."

Thats my attitude aswell Insy, I check this forum every day but rarely see anything worth replying too and it is no longer in my favorites as the kids are now banned from it......sad but true.

I've not been here for very long, as I only got my Bravo in April, but I have noticed that there were alot more mature people here when I first joined, and the number has dwindled as I've been here (do I smell or something? lol).

I know people have their own reasons for it, but I think that this sort of thread could start a witchhunt of sorts, and end up forcing more people away, and lets be honest, we aren't the biggest of communities to begin with.

Just my opinion on it, and I do agree with you Insy, the amount of people here using text language can be quite annoying.

Like I said though, I've not been here for very long, so don't really know what it was like in the past, but have noticed the change while I've been here. Hopefully I'll be here for a few more years yet, and hope that the people I've met because of here stay as well.

I probably still check this site once a day but I almost never post now. I joined this forum around 4 years ago when I bought my first bravo from a friend, he directed me here because he thought it was the best bravo forum around.

I think most of the points above are valid, but I also think my attitude has changed from one of wanting to learn everything about modifying, to one of wanting to keep my car pristine and in great working order. So when I read some posts and feel like there are loads of 'youngsters' trying to fit 18" wheels or asking (again) about the 20vt conversion, I also consider the fact that I am 4 years older than when I joined, and have spent that time learning a lot about what you can and can't do with the bravo. Plus I probably tolerate the constant same questions less than when I first joined.

Many familiar names to me have become silent on this forum and like Nige and Insy above I assume they check now and then but rarely post as they aren't sure what will come of it.

I have been wondering if the forum should evolve in to a few sections as well, although I appreciate we have the occasional vote on format and whether there should be a login or not. Wimmy is keen to keep this as is because it's what enabled him to get the good help he was looking for when he first got his car. I think times have changed and a login only forum may be the way to go, with on and off topic sections. Maybe the format change would stir up some new enthusiasm for the site too.
