In light of the recent horse meat scandal what source of meat would you or wouldn't you eat? I've left the obvious one off because the chances are most of us will have eaten horse meat recently :D

I couldn't eat dog purely for sentimental reasons and maybe not even cats but I'd not have a problem trying other types as long as they came from reputable sources. One of the courses at the conference meal last week had donkey in it and tbh it didn't taste much different - a wee bit stronger maybe but that could also have been the other ingredients in the dish

Also tried springbok biltong recently courtesy of one the students who brought it back from Swaziland. It was very nice even if biltong does translate as bum strips

Ive voted rat out of the ones you have selected, as they are fool stinkin hooers o things, but, Im not sure what others i would avaiod, depends on circumstances i recon

Wild rats yes but as they're actually quite clean animals farmed ones might be ok. Problem is they're too small to make any money from

Typing whilst thinking... The flavour of meat very much depends on what the animal was fed on so does that mean rats culled in the city centre will taste of chips, kebab, pizza etc?

food for thought?

I think there is a good chance you'll be eating cat and dog from some less disserning takeaways

Nah, not when there's rats and foxes without owners to get upset out there

So true, I had some lovely bacon flavoured meat from a supermarket for lunch today. Looked and smelled just like bacon, but was it lol who knows really the way our food is over processed these days

I'm genuinely hoping that this will strike a blow to the supermarkets and get folk supporting the high street again.

We're all guilty of grabbing some meat/ready meals from the supermarket, and folk have been saying for years that we don't really know whats in 'em.

Guess they were right. And whats more worrying, for me, is that if they've been putting in Horsemeat all this time, what other **** are they throwing in? We've all seen the programmes about processed food, chicken nuggets etc. If proper butchers etc score out of this then all the better for this happening.

Funnily enough the lads on the butchers department in the Ellon Costcutter were reporting a busier weekend than normal. For the non-locals it is a genuine butchery section with all that entails including displaying notices which state which farms the carcasses have come from and possibly the abattoir too but I can't remember. The cost is parallel and maybe slightly cheaper than the premium supermarket ranges and the taste is far, far better imo. They make their own sausages and burgers too so none of that reclaimed meat rubbish which rather nicely leads me back to the subject of what I wouldn't eat

They have a habit of trying new and unusual flavours for sausages which is where the irn bru ones from Hopetoun last year came from. I noticed today they're selling chicken korma sausages which doesn't appeal to me in the slightest so I definitely won't be trying them. Their hickory smoked sausages are delicious tho
