hello
My head gasket went due to the fan dieing so I've replaced the engine with a modified 1.2 lump and I've changed the fan and fuse, but I'm really nervous about killing another head gasket, what temp should the fan come on at? I've got an bluetooth OBD reader and it showed the temp upto 95 degrees then I chickened out and turned the engine off.
I've not heard the fan come on under its own power, what temp should it kick in at?
thanks
Ben

Don't know the exact temp for that ECU, but 95degC isn't excessive.
Remember that 100degC is not boiling.

You want to connect to the ECU and trigger the fan to make sure the control circuit is functioning properly.

Hi

I've had the little red light come on and the head gasket is still ok after 8000 miles.
Letting it boil and keeping going is bad. If it boils you need to stop, let it cool slowly before adding coolant, bleed the system...
If it boils there is something wrong, even if the fan is running.
If the fan keeps coming on, it is ok, in traffic my fan is on most of the time...

lol, that made me think of the yorkshiremen sketch that did fingers..

If the car overheats due to fan not working best thing to do (not always possible) is to spray/pour cold water over the radiator while its still running until it cools to normal operating temperature and then turn it off.. Lots of cold water not often to hand unless your at home and have hose to hand however so yeah just stopping is the next best thing.

well my fan has died at least 3months before, but probably 2 years ago (the car hasn't covered many miles in the last 3-4 years, maybe 1000 max) I just kept the heater on hot all the time and kept driving. it did pritty well really, but was going to die sooner or later I guess.
