Technical What size tyres do i need?

right, i'm going to get a set of 7x16 compomotive mo alloys.

now, what size tyre do i really need?

would i get away with 195/45/16? or should i get 195/40/16?

or any other reccomendations?

195/40s, unless you want to get your speedo recalibrated.
