Hi there. Am brand new to the forum. Have just bought my first Fiat, an 06 Punto (1242cc) and it has a 3 month warranty. Is there anything I need to look out for - common faults/niggles etc - which may be covered by the warranty? I came here as I couldn't get out of the car last night as the door handle wouldn't work - not a great start. However, posts on here suggest it might be a clip has fallen off and removing the door card will locate it. Thanks. BTW, the driver manual section about the dashboard display looks baffling!

Hi mate and WELCOME TO THE FORUM

Im guessing from your description and fault that you have a Grande Punto instead of a Mk2/2b? Door handle is a common problem and as atom says, it may well be covered by your warranty!

Makes sense I guess - just a nuisance having to do a 20 mile round trip!

*embarrassed cough* - V5 calls it a Punto Active? (variant AXA1A?)

Hi mate

If you look at the chasis number on the V5.... if its ZFA188XXXXXXXX you have a Punto Mk2/2b (2b if o6) or if it says ZFA199XXXXXXXXX then you have a Grande Punto.

Ah, it's a Grande Punto then. Thanks. The door's only just stopped working, and the MOT was from early December. Appreciate the comments folks.

Make sure temperature gauge is behaving as you would expect, i.e. staying at midpoint in normal operation. Going very high is obviously bad, but staying very low (mostly) is also a bad sign and likely means thermostat bad.

Probably easily enough rectified, but better under warranty than on your own time and account.

Could also quick-check fan/temperature-sensor with the tip Sponger gave me here: https://www.fiatforum.com/punto-ii/340156-temperature-variations-2.html (post #23 , hopefully still relevant to GP). Note this is separate to the thermostat checking.
