Mainly aimed at the Sedici guys but the others can join in too!

What petrol are you running your teapot on?

Mine's been on Shell Optimax since I bought it, seems fine but wondering if its overkill.
the 16v was designed for 95 ron.the old 8v twinks loved high octane,so not sure.usually with an engine thats likes high octane that is run on a lower octane, the engine will occasionaly miss for a split second.my volvo T5 would do that if the local petrol station had no super unleaded[most of the time].but in theory, the management should alter the timing etc to cope.they are designed to run with the crapiest eastern bloc/middle east fuel.try it for a week or two on 95 U/L and let us know if there is a difference.btw, optimax is supposed to keep your valves and chambers nice and clean.so that may justify its use anyway.:)

Not planning to open it up any time soon to check...

Think I'll keep it on Oppy for now cause its not that much more than normal unleaded.
about 6p a litre difference? :) BP ultimate at my local is 9p a litre more:eek:

used to use the cheapest around made no difference. with no knock sensor the timing is completely static within the map.

hellcat did you ever get another exhaust?

Anyway, on my way home from leeds the other night I realised my golf's lights were so dirty I could hardly see where I was going. So I pulled off the road at wolley edge services. At the pumps I was busy looking for the cold bucket of water and sponge, when something caught my eye. familiar red stripe - It was a SEDICI!! couldnt believe it what we the chances of that?? parked up I spoke the owner, it was tip top 58k std sedici 5 door with recaros, the kind of sedici i'd love to have (well inddition to my one at the mo). That made my evening.

When I open my petrol flap there is a big Green sticker saying:

This Engine was designed to use 95ron Unleaded

Or something like that.... first time I ever filled it up I used 4 Star and oh my was the car flying.. was like it was on Redbull or something.

Hmmmm, think I'll try optimax next time. My teapot has always 'jumped' a little but assumed that was the bloody Superchip messing about with the timing etc. Maybe a few more horses are yet to be found under the bonnet.....................................?

Interesting this question of petrol. Rich has given the technical responce BUT all I can say is my standard Sedici Teapot - a 1992 16v 5 door - does seem to like Optimax. It just seems to run that little bit crisper. I have no explanation for this at all!!!

I think all Tipos, at least all 1.4L and over, are designed for 95 ron. I dont see any point using higher octane unless you have management mapped for it.

Well it says 95ron minimum in the book and doesn't say 95ron only.. Unlike my dad's volvo which says not to use anything except 95ron

You can always use a higher RON fuel. "95 only" would assume the only other fuel avaiable was of lower RON.
