Hi, glad i found this site and hope someone can help me please.

I have a 1990 2.5 diesel fiat ducato kontiki with a blown engine at the moment, and before i strip it completeley for (possible) repare i was wondering what alternatives there are regarding engine swop upgrades?
I have the engine out but would like to know if and what other engines would fit back into it while i have the opportunity.
I have been trying to source a fresh head for it as it that part that is beyond redemption, the block would take some weld and a flick up i think.

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for your advice and reply Charlie, will look in classifieds, could you suggest any other sites to look on?
Think i,m jus gona get a head and overhaul the whole unit etc, that way i know it will be sound , i really enjoy the van and have no intention of getting rid of it yet. Have read some scarey stories about people buying second hand engines!!
Tony.

If the engine is a canted forwards OHV design it is derived from the power unit fitted to the Citroen CX - not easy to find.

AFAIK the OHC Sofim (as per Iveco Daily) was not fitted to the first generation Sevel vans.

Thanks for the info dragonwagon, will keep you and the forum updated as other people may have / had the same problem as i'm having.

If you would like to overhaul the engine and you will not be able to get the parts let us know maybe I can help [email protected] enter the VIN

Hi Tygrys, thanks for your reply. I am looking for a cylinder head for it, would you be able to help please?
Best regards, Tony.

head looking up to 2.5 D so
http://allegro.pl/fiat-ducato-iveco-2-5-d-td-81-93-glowica-krakow-i3624957733.html
it is only as I see the allegro:
Head of regeneration done in a professional workshop grinding, ie:
- Planning
- Replacement of seals
- Proven containment of hot water jacket
- Milling the valve seats
- Grinding valves

APPLICATION:
Fiat Ducato
Iveco
2.5 Diesel Engines and TurboDiesel
1981-1993.

and as for Polish conditions the cost is not big in the reference about 200 GPB
unless he finds something mondrater also has a nose :)

Hi Tygrys, sorry for the delay in answering, have been moving.

Yes i,ve seen the allegro site, some cheap parts on there, in particular there are NEW headlight units that do not require a re-mortgage!!

Thanks for pointing out the item on allegro but i,ve found one now from peter at -plg parts of bradford, who has been a mine of information and help.

Best regards, Tony.

Hi Dragonwagon,am just starting to rebuild the engine after finding a reconditioned head and am not sure if i need to replace all the head bolts, would you know if i need to please?
They are hexagonal heads and not the torx type if that helps.
Best regards, Tony.

hi, i have fitted a 2.8 cc engine from a 2001 ducato into my 1.9nad 1991 ducato motorhome, some mods needed, but what a differance it makes.

Yes, if you are following the recommendations from the Citroen workshop manual. All stretch bolts are one use only and will not torque down properly on re use.

Thanks again dragonwagon, i have been trying to source the 22 bolts for it but am struggling at mo, would you know of a supplier?

Regards, Tony.

Hi dunnie, that sounds interesting! what mods did you have to do, just engine mounting positions/types, or was there a lot more involved?

Best regards Tony.

Hi all,
I am also interested in fitting a newer engine to a 1991 Hymer 694b which has the 8140.27 td engine. Its about 4 ton in weight with a tag axle and very much under powered. Dunnie, you fitted a 2.8 from a 2001. How did you manage the ECU wiring, exhaust sensors etc?Mine is also a LHD. Does this pose a problem if I want to dash mount the gear change from a RHD doner? Did you look at the newer common rail engines? Would there be more work in fitting one of these?
Regards

Hi Rubi1
I am having similar issues with my 2.5 TD ducato 8144.67 engine, and need to replace the head. Could you tell me where you got a replacement, so far I have been quoted £600 plus vat which I need to bring in cheaper if possible

Hi,
The 2.8 TDi is the best choice for engine swap. If you require a 2.5 Di engine I have one with 71,000 miles on it. Its the Peugeot 2.5 not the Ducato engine.
Cheers
Simon

looking through my 1990 engine manual.. it keeps referring to the Croma TD CAR engine..maybe that is the same lump..??, wether a UK model..??

as I'm pretty sure the early Ducato 1929cc's were the same as in theTtipo + Tempra..,

Charlie

The first generation of Ducato had the 1929 unit in the lighter chassis from the start, however the heavier vans that I encountered had a Citroen M series ohv unit of the type fitted to the CX, it all depends on the weight of the vehicle used for the camper conversion - the larger coachbuilts often had the 2.5 ohv diesel also found in the Talbot Express.
Nasty thing that engine.....especially turbocharged.
