I have a uno turbo 1.3L (1283cmc) made in 1987.
What would be the best oil to use on this engine?
Please post answers on this format:
Castrol 5w40 or smtg

I use Penrite 15W50 semi-synthetic oil.

10W40 would be the minimum I'd suggest (I ran Castrol Magnatec 10W40 for some time), but my engine sees quite a lot of high temperatures (oil over 100 degrees) so I think the extra weight of the 15W50 is worthwhile.

If you use thin oils intended for modern engines, you will probably increase the oil consumption. Most fully-synthetic oils (e.g. Mobil 1) are too thin in my opinion, though Castrol makes a 10W60 full-synthetic oil that would be appropriate.

If you use non-semisynthetic (i.e. mineral) oils, you might risk coking in the turbocharger when shut off.

These are just my opinions and it will be interesting to see what others suggest.

for alexGS

So, what you eas trying to tell me is :
I could use 10W40 castrol , but the oil could get overheat, so it would be better to use 15W50 for oil/engine care.
Thank you for your answer and i wait for more opinion. in case no1 else answer me , i'll go fr 15W50. maybe you can name me a brand i should choose :)
thanks

Re: for alexGS

I used 5w/50 ELF synthetic in my Uno turbo. At operating temp its the same viscosity as 15w/50. It wont use oil if its in good condition. My car used about 500ml per 5000km.

FIAT specify 10w/40 but it depends on the climate/use too.

That's almost what I meant, but not quite ;)
You can use 10W40, but if you have high temperatures due to where you live (no country under your name?) and how hard you drive the car (I sometimes drive mine on a race circuit), then you should think about a thicker oil (in my opinion).

Cheers, I don't know what brands are available to you, and it's probably not too important as long as it's at least semi-synthetic.

Thank you for your answers. I do live in Romania (europe) where climate in the summer is like 30-38 celsius degree.
A friend from holland told me he recomend me castrol 10W60 RS.
