whats is P1702 TRS (transmission Range Sensor) Circuit Intermittent Malfunction. What does it cause.

i guess you have an auto.
the transmission range sensor's circuit is intermittently fautly, that means the ecu can not get a signal from the transmission range sensor sometimes, but other times it is ok. that is usually a wiring fault, such as a loose or dirty connector, but it can be a sensor fault too.
the transmission range sensor is on the gearbox, it tells the ecu what position the gearbox is in. i have never seen a fiat where the transmission range sensor is not fixed to the underside fo the gearbox, leaving it in the path of damp and dirt, so a dirty connector should be top of your list of things to check out.
when you move the gearstick forward and back, where the movement ends on the gearbox is the transmission range sensor. in some cases a good spray with alcohol can get them working again.

no, but it means i'm not sure where it will be on a manual box. replace the transmission range sensor, they dont cost much.

oh that explains it! i was going to suggest a manual would not have a transmission range sensor, but i thought the car maybe knew something i didnt 
u1702 is a fiat specific code related to the CAN BUS, i cant find any detailed information because my fiat specific library only states "CAN BUS communication fault" but i would assume that means 2 or more of the devices on the CAN BUS are not able to communicate, i would assume due to a wiring fault (loose connector). the reason i think that is becasue a fault with one of the devices would give a different code that would make identification of the fault easier, for example narrowing it down to the steering (probably most common fault on the CAN BUS).

have you not noticed any fault with the car at all, such as dash lights not working or remaining lit?

so its an intermittent connection problem, if you ever get stuck with the problem i'm sure you could wiggle a few wires to sort it out, i'd attack the "multi-timer unit" connector in that situation.

Ah well its going in next week for repair for few things. Ill tell them to add that to the list. Nice one jug.

bet you need an injector to sort the engine out.

there are 4 fuel injectors that squirt petrol in to the engine. on the 1.6 the most common fault is injector failure. if you search in the bravo/a section there are hundreds of threads about it, including how to diagnose and repair it yourself for £5-10. its easy to test your injectors using a multimeter.
