I bought a Brava 1.6 '96 a few weeks ago. I noticed this red LED (in the middle of the picture). I have no idea what it's there for and I have never seen it lit.

Can anybody tell me what it does?

Thanks,

Hmm... there shouldn't be an alarm installed - atleast not as far as i know.

Think I better take it apart and see if there is any wiring behind it :)

Do you mean the red one with the triangle on?

If so its your hazard warning lights.

He he... no :) - just about an inch below it... you can't see it on the thumbnail, but click on the image for the larger version.

see photo....

The dissuasion Leds is able to notify the user of any anomalies in the system thru number of flashes 4Hz. If an anomaly of fault is present, the system causes a dissuasion LED to flash to indicates which sensor triggered an alarm during surveillance. E.g.

Constant Light= Transmitter battery flat (in the key)
1 pulse= right front door…2 to 8 pulses....etc, etc
9 pulses= direct power source
10 pulses= At least 3 causes of alarm

My middle bit of plastic is blank. I know my dad did once fit an LED like that to one of his crappier cars to make out he had an alarm without bothering to invest in one.

I don't think it's something that has been put in later, as it looks like it has been there from the factory. As far as i can tell there isn't an alarm installed (took most of the car apart when installing some serious ICE last week, and didn't see anything suspicious ;-).
I asked the prevous owner and he didn't know what it was either (although he didn't have the car from new).

I'll see if i can take the center console apart this weekend then...

If it is a factory-installed alarm where would be a good place to look for fuses, hidden switches and stuff (i didn't see any when installing the ICE).

Check the front roof courtesy light. Does it have an led, button and two sensors fitted?

The on/off switch is in the footwell fuse panel, bottom right. It will have a plastic cover on it. The fuse for the alarm is not published anywhere I can see. Try rear fog lights and/or fuse 10 in the main fuse panel or the central locking fuse in the aux fuse panel above it.

i has the same thing on my bravo 1.6 that i bought on monday. book says its an alarm indicator but i think that its been disabled because the previous owner never had the key for the alarm.

i have the same thing in my brava, - i have no alarm and it is not connected upto anything! i believe its there for an alarm if one were fitted!
- i had planned to wire it upto an alarm i bought from alfa nige but that alarm didnt get on with me and is now disconnected! (long story)
