Technical What engines fit 1 on 1 with the Fire 1.1 Engine? Or can i Boost mine?

Hey
I cant think about something else, i did everything i could, to be so cheap as possible, but not realy that.. I did everything that i could find for the 1.1 Fire Engine of my car to gain as mucht as HP i could get..

What did i do?:
Boosted my fuelpressure,
Open airfilter,
Smashed my Catalic converter empty,
Setted my ignition verry early, (my throttle response went 10x better!!)

But i'm bored of the 1.1 motor, i want something with more power..

I have a turbo and i have a intercooler, i have enough pipes tot make a complete working Turbo 1.1, but how on hell do i have to fix the Turbo to the manifolt, and howmucht boost can the 1.1 engine have?

Can i use the Injector of the 1.4 or an other 1.6 Monopoint engine? Or do i need a second injector?

Or what is the best engine i can drop in with no problems? (except electronic)
That the engine mounts are identical..

Nothing but UT and some modds to the drive train - CV's ect. - OR IF you have quit some money to spend on a 1.1 then you could maybe build a a UT eater,, should I say std UT eater that is Normal Asp.

a Bit of Enginering work with the Head to fit the Valves and by Over Sizing the Ports
Dissguarding/Throw away the Carb and fitting Side Draughts.

Now you must think about how much money you have spend to get it at this stage,,, by to just maybe beat a std UT

Now also think by fitting a UT motor and doing the odds and end for the modds,,, it would maybe come to the same amount BUT THEN,,, you can still modify the UT motor even MORE!!

but i was wondering if i can drop an 1.4 or an 1.6 or even a Punto engine into my engine bay.. If this isn't possible, Do you know howmuch pressure the stock 1.1 max. can handle?

Anything else that i have to know about Turboing the 1.1 Monopoint Fire engine..?

I think i want to charge a bigger engine and not my small 1.1 fire.

The FIRE gearbox struggles with 60bhp, I doubt it`s last 5 minutes with another 30-50bhp!

To be honest, in that case you'd be better off buying a car with a bigger engine fitted as standard. Remember as well, it's not the engine capacity/ power output that's the only important thing. Power to weight ratio (by using smaller engines) counts for a lot as is the ability to be able to actually put the power down on the road without wheel spinning to eternity. Oh, and torque steering into the nearest ditch

No. If you have a FIRE engine as standard then only another FIRE will fit using the existing mounts and gearbox. Get turbo mounts and you can fit the turbo engine. If you have LOTS of money you can get a conversion kit that will allow you to fit the Lancia 1.6/ 2.0 twin cam engines, including the turbo versions of these. Be warned, you will need to do a lot of work and you will need to spend a lot of money.

Read the link Dave gave regarding your query. It sounds like you need to read up a lot more about what you're proposing and to try doing some logical pre-planning first. There's far more to making a fast and good handling Uno then just slapping in the biggest engine you can find, hoping that you can also bolt up a turbo charger and then expecting everything to work out fine. For instance, before you should even think about making a fast Uno your first priority is the suspension and brakes. Concentrate on those first and THEN start thinking about big power

The FIRE gearbox can quite happily reliably cope with up to around 100bhp. Panda Sport has done many thousands of miles in his 1242 16v (87 bhp) classic Panda using the existing classic Panda gearbox.

Also it's not the power that normally destroys the gearbox, it's torque. And it's torque that dramitically increases when you start turbo charging an engine.

However, a 150bhp Tipo 16v engine would very soon tear a FIRE gearbox apart if it's full potential was unleashed!

Otherwise, you could go for a 1242cc 16v conversion. should bolt up onto the mounts and the gearbox should mate up too (although may not take the power) but you will need to wire in the Punto 16v loom and ECU to control the ignition etc. Also will need to use the punto fuel pump etc.

the 1.4 16v may also be an option from the stilo/panda/500.

Any fire/superfire engine will be your best bet as they should match the mounts to some extent.

And my knowledge and mechanical knowledge about cars is over average. I just want to have more information about how and what because i am new in the fiat world.

Any FIRE engine will bolt up to your existing mounts and gearbox so the year is irrelevant. Your difficulties are going to be in areas of fueling and hooking up the wiring/ ignition system. Also bear in mind that the 1.4 16v uses a fly by wire throttle rather than a cable so you'll either have to adapt that to your car or convert the inlet side to the earlier 1242 16v set up.

An earlier 1242 16v conversion is easier simply because most of it will hook up without too much drama. Check out Panda Sports classic Panda 16v conversion:

I want the biggest engine possible to fit it right into my Uno.
So i take the 1.4 16v engine, Fly by wire or other electrical stuff is not the big issue, that can always be the next project.. to have it run or even fit is my biggest project, and if it is 1 on 1 its a very big step thats accomplished, because i dont want no homemade mounts and half/half gearbox with no clutch or something.. just built it and than we'll see the electric things..

Also i want to turbo-charge the engine.. but that can wait. First finding the engine (what i think ik did)

I may be wrong, so don't take this as gospel, but I believe it is possible to take the 1.4 16v and use the MK1 Punto 1.2 16v inlet and throttle body instead of the standard 1.4 16v lot. This is cable throttle so will resolve the problems.

The 1.2 16v from the mk1 punto sporting would be the easiest swap out of the 16v fire engines.

Might be worth hunting down a 1.4 8v fire from the stilo??? Could be an even easier swap using an inlet from the Punto 75? I dont know if that will work though

The Stilo was only ever fitted with the 1.4 16v. There was never an 8v 1242 option. You may be getting mixed up with the 1.4 litre 12v engine fitted to the Bravo/a? That's not a FIRE engine and is also renowned for being a complete dog of an engine too.

No, my point was that UnoGoon was repeating what I'd already said earlier in this thread

Physically you can fit the 1.4 16v in place of your current FIRE. The issue raised is that all 1.4 16v FIRE engines use fly by wire throttle control making it more difficult to fit into a vehicle not equipped with this system. As mentioned, there are two ways round this - 1. fit the inlet system from an earlier 1242 16v engine that uses cable operation, or 2. adapt the the fly by wire throttle system to your car. The latter can be done but requires more work. The only successful conversion I know is, I think, the classic Panda belonging to Lewey in the Classic Panda section. Arc has fitted a 1.4 16v to his Cinquecento, as has J333EVO with a Seicento, but both used the 1242 16v inlet system. J333EVO also used a stand alone engine management system - "Emerald" if I can recall correctly.

Plenty of options available to you so time to get planning!

As for the 1.4 8v. I wasnt too sure tbh. only ever come across a few mentions of it. Once being for sale on ebay (was certinatly a photo of a fire engine and not the 12v) but was sceptical as the time. Another was on here somewhere. Cant remember where though.

Edit - Quick google search and there is a 1.4 8v. Its from the Grande Punto.
