Hi There.

I own a Fiat Stilo 1.6 16V from 2001. It has a warning saying that there is a light bulb problem, and the next warning says "< RR. Indicat.". Does anybody know, which bulb I have to change?

Ah, thanks. I'll check if the turn signal on the rear right side is functioning then. I got quite confused since there is a pointer like this "<", which obviously indicates, that the failure is on the left side.

Strange thing: both rear indicators are working just fine. The warning in the cars display only shows when I use the brake! When pressing the brake the yellow bulb sign turns on and the display says "<RR indicat.", while the annoying beeps starts sounding.

Jatkinson, what did you do exactly to make it stop? It has working fine since I bought the car used two months ago. A week ago the warnings began.

Similar to the beloved puntos too

Whip the light cluster out
Clean the brake light bulbs contacts
Ensure clean contacts in holder

Clean the earthing pin connector
Ensure the multi plug is also clean and able to get a yight grip

This should cure the problem

it my Stilo 1.2 was contacts on the rear fog lamps (5th door). Bulb on rear fog lamps were good.
The car is too smart and makes an alarm if it does not.

It's a bad connection somewhere. My guess is that water is getting into the rear light cluster and is corroding the connectors or the base of the rear light bulb (which is a twin-filament (21/5W) bulb; it also contains the brake light filament ).

When you brake the extra resistance sends some current down the indicator circuit and sets off the bulb failure warning. I'd guess that the indicator is illuminating slightly when the brake light is on... but obviously you can't see it.

Remove the rear light cluster and check the condition of the metal panel under the screw-on bulb cover. If you remove the rear light bulb, check that you replace the right way round or you'll get a brighter rear light (21W) and dim (5W) brake light. The bulb should only be able to fit one way.. but note the "should"... the bulb holder is quite slack and it's possible to put the bulb in back to front. :D

When you replace everything make sure the seals are all seated properly. If there's condensation inside the lens then that's a sign that the cluster unit has been leaking. You might be able to see where the water has been getting in (stains on the foam backing) so you'll know where to focus on (use some sealant if approporiate).
