I have used MES but need a cable for the advanced features.

Can I use a KKL or do I need a ELM327 for canbus type use? (I have the coloured adapter cables already, but the kkl and yellow doesn't connect.)

I saw there are different chip sets for FTDI also. Not sure what I need to get on ali.

Tia 👍

If you go on Gendans Website it will tell you what cables are required for what Fiat using MES and which version will cover what you are trying to do.
I have found them very helpful.:)

I couldn't see specifics on the cables. Was this the page you meant or is there another?

Thanks
That just specified elm... But there appear to be different chips on elm cables...?

It's their ELM they're talking about , the one with the chipset they know to work with their kit they sell.
They're (quite rightly)probably not gonna tell tell you which specific ELM chipset works because they want to sell their kit , you might get lucky getting a 3rd party one but theirs is known to work.

Sure, but obviously looking to save funds where possible.

I could buy all the cable variants and still be saving a stack. And even have a couple to modify the pins on, loads of YT vids on that side...

Supposing 1.1 8v 2003 you need ELM327 v1.5 or v2.2+ and adapter A1 green to do 99% things.

I needed yellow as I had cleared codes and it resulted in a stack of issues... Dash want working, fuel gauge zero. Steering fail, rev zero, canbus fail...

It seemed that the code clearing impacted the BCM / dash / ECU.

I wanted to do a proxy alignment but couldn't.

Eventually it all resyncd so panic over.

It was very odd behavior
