Currently, my pc is located right near my 32" LCD tv and connect via a DVI-D cable via a dvi-d/hdmi connector into the HDMI port on my tv.

It works fine. But now im changing my room around and my pc is going on the oppisite side of the room and the current cable (belkin 3meters,) is just not enough. A friend gave me a DVI to HDMI cable he got from Ebay and the qaulity is really shocking which is a shame.

Unless i want to spend quite a bit of money on a newer DVI cable from maplins, im going to have to stick with the poorer qaulity one for a while, But then i thought i could use VGA.

It could be VGA to VGA or DVI-D to VGA, not fussed. But will the picture qaulity be poorer than the belkin?

How has everybody else got there pc/tv's hooked up?

Well DVI is generally better than VGA (cos its a digital signal) but to be honest your probably not going to notice all that big a difference. I have my Xbox 360 linked to my TV via VGA and it certainly performs well against my PCs monitor (which is connected via DVI).

You will always get the best signal through a true digital connection. DVI and HDMI are signal compatible (although the connectors are different), however an HDMI connection can also carry audio (there's more contacts available than in a single link DVI connection).

Any kind of analog connection (i.e VGA) will need the signal to be converted from digital to analog and then back again. Quality will be lost in the conversion both ways. Don't do it..

It is possible to buy good quality DVI-HDMI (or any combination of the two) cables that work fine - I have used 9 metre ones previously without problems, but as you say, they can be expensive. Check out a company called Provantage in the US if you need to go down that route, I've found them to be much cheaper than sourcing in the UK.

Or you could just move your PC closer to the TV again..

Cheers,

Plug

Yer i used that exsiting cable that i mentioned in my first post. The only reason the qauilty was crap was because the PC needed to go into HDMI port 2 on the tv but i had it in the 3rd one and the difference was alot. LOL...

I have hdmi cable running from sky hd downstairs up to my tv... 10metre cable..
£19.99, and the hdmi signal splitter was £8.

Aye but what quality? I got one for £3 for 1.5m and it was a pile of crap wouldn't work using HD On a PS3. There are many different HDMI standards and the cheaper ones don't usually support the higher standards which HD devices need.
