I did it, I bought myself an HGT! Seems a good solid car, full year's MOT on it with the new style certificate.

Only downers on the car are that I will need to get a red key made :( and it has no history due to being a finance repo.

It's a '98 R reg and I paid £1300 for it.

There she is. I'm really pleased I bought her. Fantastic :D

Looks nice :)
But I think your rear wiper aint workin ;)
The red key cant be made, as I know, the only way to get it is to replace the imobiliser ecu - mucho $$$

Looks very nice mate, very nice.

The colour is just fab, probably the best colour you can get but then again, a may be biast due to the fact that it is the exact same colour as mine. ;)

As for keys, you can't get a red key cut. To have a red key you will need to change all the locks, ecu etc etc and will cost you about £500.

Easiest thing would be to get a the blue key cut.

Have fun and Happy driving. :)

Cheers guys!

The red key thing is a bit of a bummer. I guess I'll just have to hold out and hope for the best. It seems like a well looked after car, and yeah I can't seem to get the rear wiper going lol

Any suggestions on that front?

Try cleaning the contact plates in the boot.

They are next to the lock. If that doesn't work then I would go to a scrappy a replace it. Shouldn't be too much money but good luck in finding one. One of the first things to go so are like rocking horse s***e

I forgot to add, I'm not actually sure which way you have the wiper control to use it when it is actually working....

On the right stalk for the wipers turn the end part to the front of the car. That will turn on the rear wiper - for washing it just push the stalk forward.

Ah tried that. new motor it is then unless cleanign the contacts work.

I kind of expected this lol

You have nothing to lose, so it's worth trying this.....

Remove the motor and open it up.

Pull the spindle bit with the windings on it out of the casing (it needs a good tug as the magnets are very strong).

Get a can of carb. cleaner, some emery paper and a small, sharp screwdriver.

(you'll have to bear with me on this, I'm not too bad at waving spanners around, but don't know the technical terms for the bits of motor).

At one end of the spindle shaft, there's s set of contacts running all the way round the shaft. Don't ask me what they're called, though ;)

Anyway, clean them up with the emery paper and carb. cleaner to get rid of all the burned on grease etc. Then get the pointy screwdriver and clean out the grooves between the contacts.

Once you've done this, put the motor back together again, liberally spraying everything with a light aerosol oil before bolting the case back together.

After you've done this, you should have a working motor.

If you don't, you've lost nothing, but possibly saved yourself the 30-odd quid you'd pay for a used one, or £100+VAT and delivery for a new one.

Jay your username is Jay_HGT, doesn't already mean you was a HGT owner before? Nice car but prefer the MK2's just because of a silly difference between the two, with the MK2 having a darker dashboard and nicer dials. But thats me.

Joske

lol...dont listen to joske, the mk1 is every bit the car the mk2 is, plus i have painted my interior black and looks better then mk2s now because they are just dark grey really ;)

+ the mk2 hgt cost a fair bit more to insure and is no quicker! you made the right dision..

as for the dials thats down to taste i like the mk1 more BUT i do wish i had a digital mileometer thingy :( and outside temp :( but thats it, not worth the extra for the car and insurance really.
