Guys i need your input i have this strange problem. WHile only in 4th gear ( not in any of the others) sometimes under steady rpm clibm, accelerating around 4,000 rpms it seems like the rpms jump about 500 rpms faster than the steady climb and then drop down a bit and then continues the rpm climb.

Its very strange. i dont believe its a clutch problem (but im not sure ive never happened to come upon this problem to have real life problem to acknowledge the symptoms) I changed the clutch when i chagned my gear box this summer. i did the classic test for clutch problem, handbreak up 1st gear and drop the clutch to see if the engine stops right away. Also same way but instead of dropping the clutch i gradually dropped it to see an incrrease in rpm but nada.

ITs very strange i did notice i leak a bit of oil from the crankshaft but i dont think it would leak to the clutch plate since its behind it would it?

ok problem is still occuring now it occurs in 3,4, and 5th gear randomly in the 4,000 rpm range im assuming cause this is where the max torque is on the 1.6 engine. this is really worrying me how is it possible in only 15,000 klm for the clutch to go? i used a quality valeo.

im dreading the fact im going to half to tear down half the engine bay to take down the gear box and inspect the clutch. is it possible there can be oil contamination from the engine flywheel? i know its tearing oil from behind the flywheel engine seal but the flywheel is huge how can it reach the clutch on the other side? any other ideas what it is?

ok i guess its unevitable i will have to take the gearbox down. i think ill replace the rear oil seal also behind the flywheel of what i see from elearn it looks relatively simple 2-3 screws and then need of sealent when i put the new one. i assume once a clutch is contaminated cleaning it with brake/carburettor sprey is out of the question a new one is needed.

yeah thats correct, once a clutch is contaminated you can't save it 100% i've used cola on a rally car before to get it from the end of a stage into service
