I've had my sie 1.1 mpi for two years and now it's time to start turning it into the crazy little monster it's ment to be

I've looked into posts about more power but I'm thinking of going the other way on power to weight ratio

Striping all the sound deadening, trim, etc i just wondered what can be ditched and the savings that can be made

Things I've thought of
Wheels
Roof lining
Door cards
Centre console door pockets
Seats
Carpets
Spare wheel, jack etc

Anyone done this and worked out the weight savings
 
Every little helps. Sound deadening is one thing you forgot (if you can live without it).

Lexan windows and Carbon Fibre panels will help, but at a price!

Cheapest gains are probably going to come from a 16v transplant.

ear plugs are light weight...
smaller & lower amp hour battery as far aft in the battery tray as possible, centre of gravity is way forward
rear wiper omit
the alternator is running at twice engine speed it would work as good at half engine speed
 
I work in a fab shop so earplugs are in plentiful supply, I'm not to worried about noise I used to drive a mini rally car when I was 17, no I didn't prep it but understand the principles, lighter, stiffer, more power, decent shocks and ankers
 
It's not going to be just for the track so it's got to stay legal and safe

I also know a chick that's a fibreglass laminator (she does carbon) she can knock up something nice for the interior for a reasonable price
 
ive got my trofeo down to 647 kg but stripping everything but roof cloth race seats and dash.if I carry a passenger jeezz u can feel the difference in acceleration
 
I if you remove the rear wiper and pipe work would it pass mot as its ment to have one

Mine hasn't got a rear wiper or motor, and its never been a problem. Just a small rubber bung covering the hole for the spindle.

As far as I know, if it has one physically fitted, it needs to work...if its not fitted, then its not applicable. Plenty of saloons without a rear wiper.
 
Medion that's about 100kgs according to the published weight! That is nice and light

my metro came new with a grommet instead of a wiper through the wiring was there for it

I would keep fog lights do a lot of dark driving through a foggy forest through the winter on my way to work

well my dipped are better than the fogs in fog
if some one parks to near the drivers side fog will sandwich the rad and tdc sensor...
drive slower in fog trees are not auto friendly

convert front pair to single wiper
if you are engineer cut holes in chassis
gun drill cam shaft
 
Cut holes in the chassis?? I think not i think that might let some water in weaken it I wanna make a light car not cut it up for the scrap man

well you drill the holes into box sections from inside auto but you do need to know where to drill

remove metal from exhaust manifold and fit a cv plate

remove metal from cylinder head ports

etc.
 
I think the best idea will be to strip the car down to each individual fastener and take each item as I put it back and lighten it including grinding off the stamped numbers off of bolts, any nadgy bits of weld etc even polish the edges of the washers to get rid of burrs etc
 
Well, it's an idea, but it's not going to loose you a lot of weight. People prepping racebikes have been known to drill and hollow out the head of titanium bolts, but, then, titanium doesn't require re-plating to keep the rust off!

Early Elises had aluminium disks (plasma or nicasil coated, IIRC) to fight the flab and it's really the heavy bits you need to concentrate on. Just think how many bolts you have to polish the numbers off to equal the weight of one brake caliper!
