Wherever I am, in whatever shop, I'm always on the lookout for parts/materials that can be used for things other than what they were originally designed/intended.
Google/E-bay are also invaluable for finding cheap(er) alternatives for lots of things.

Had similar problem as mentioned in this thread, my fix was to remove the jets/nozzles and soak in hot soapy water to remove the green gunk (mildew/algae??), which had accumulated inside.

Mine just had a bit of what looked like cotton thread or thin string in them.
I'm not certain, but I'd expect most screenwash liquids to have some sort of mould/algae inhibitor in them, although the Ethanol and Ethylene Glycol in them probably do the job.
I did read somewhere that a bit of Ammonia (half a cup or so in a full tank), and a bit of dishwasher liquid helps get the screen really clean.
