Advice please

when putting car away in garage noticed water dripping out of rear box on closer inspection a bit rusty at edge obviuosly water prssure finding wee hole. questoin is should i get it replaced asap or put some exhaust putty etc on it meantime. got to drive glasgow to coventry on sunday.
car is 1.6 05 plate
thanks

At least the waters getting out! if you seal it up it will just rust more on the inside. Is it blowing as such? if so you might as well get it replaced before MOT time.

Surprising for an 05 plate, I guess it's low mileage? if you drove more the water would evaporate off. My 02 plate is still on original exhaust but 120,000 miles.

Thanks yes only done circa 36,000 and most of that has been in last two years.
might just leave it until it goes- at least its safe to drive?
havent noticed any performance issues with car just short journeys this week so guess that hasnt helped

like car but have had so many problems- head gasket, timing belt, radiator, rear bushes, air con belt etc

You have to remember petrol contains Hydrogen
and as it's burnt it combines with oxygen to produce
water, almost as much water as the petrol burnt.

Short runs and cold mean the exhaust doesn't
get hot enough to get rid of all the moisture
so it gathers in the silencer box. Some silencer
even have a small hole put there in manufacture
to allow the water to drip out and drain.

If it ain't blowing it's no problem.

AIRC my 1.6 had a purpose-made hole in the back box to allow condensate to drain out. Don't block it up!

Doh I only went less than five minutes to the gym and back so this might explain it just paranoid about car at moment.
