Only 3 months ago I traded in my old 2007 grande punto 1.4 active sport with less than 40k miles on the clock for a new punto. I got £2400 part ex, I felt ripped off then and even to this day I feel some what ripped off.

Their were a few problems with my grande punto to start off with....

1 week MOT left, 1 week road tax, damaged passanger door (full of deep scatches), broken drivers mirror, nearside front suspension brush needed replacing, needed new front discs and pads and a rattle from the engine bay (unknown what this was).

I stilled owned nearly £600 on the car at this time and I had no money to do repairs or even paid the last few month installments due to moving home (so all my money was needed to move house). So buying a newer car was my best option as it meant not paying for 2 months and forgoing MOTs, TAX etc. plus no service history (used to do myself) and refused to paid £200+ for fiat to do it.

After the dealer paid the £600, did I really gave the car away for £1800 (£2400-£600= £1800). The involve states £1800+ part ex but I know the dealer paid off the remaining £600. At the time I was under so much pressure due to problems in family life, moving home etc I just jumped in there.

You did alright there. Grande's are only making £2500-ish on eBay and considering the repairs, service, M.O.T and resale value there wasn't much of a profit margin on the part of the trader.
