Was investigating why my rear brakes were making a horrible noise, and found that the modified part fiat fit to the rear calipers ( weight set to stop brakes whining when reversing) has completely gone, so the caliper was hanging on one bolt! So please check yours!

ive had this done buut have no idea were you mean is it actually on the caliper then im going to check now lol

could just be a one off but as matty says its worth checking (I take it the other side is ok?)

The rear caliper is attached with two bolts, one at top one at bottom. They replace the bottom bolt with like a threaded bar and a rubber weight to stop whining, but mines completely gone, was free to swing . Drivers side still in tact. Just thought it would be best if everyone checks, hope it's a one off!

I temporarily bodged it to get to the dealers, better be fixed on 3rd year warranty, after all it's a modified part which they fitted which has fallen to bits. So glad I didn't have an accident! Could have Been alot worse

So when I brake at any speed whilst reversing it gives off a collosal squeek. is that what you meant? Any easy way to fix this?

i think your misunderstanding my thread.

the grande punto, with rear disks, has a habit of making a loud droaning noise from rear caliper when reversing.

fiat devised a kit, that is attached using the bottom bolt on the caliper, its basically a rubber doughnut, bolted through the middle using the caliper bolt. it is like a counterweight, and helps reduce/stop the droaning.

when one day i had a horrible noise coming from the rear brakes, i thought WTF??

so had a look, and low and behold this "kit" fiat had fitted, had completely fallen off, no sign of it.....so the caliper was held on with one bolt!

so the aim of this thread, was to make people check, if they have this kit fitted, that its still present, and there not driving about with a caliper held on with one bolt.

heres what it looks like:
