General Wanna get a new Car

Hi Everyone.. I wanna buy a new car and I'm really confused :bang: between two cars (Fiat Palio or Volkswagen Pointer/Gol) Could anyone tell me what are the pros & cons of each one of them to help me make ma mind easily?

I am Kareem From Cairo ,

I was into the same headache before I get my Palio , but the Pointer was more expensive back when I bought my Palio , ( 66,000 for a Palio - 75,000 for A Pointer ).

Anyways let me put it this way

VW Pointer - Brazilian Made :
pros :

1600 CC engine
Better accelleration
Better Interior Materials
The new 2006/7 Pointer looks much sexier than the current Palio in my opinon
Good Resale value thanks to its Badge only .

Cons :
the 1600 Engine is 8V , producing 92hp only and makes alot of NOISE
The engine is not made by VW , I think its a Ford or something like that
Spare parts ARE OVERPRICED .. very very EXPENSIVE
Not a single part in this car is german all from brazil .
No cassette/cd/fm
Rear windows are manual
Manual Side mirrors
No Abs
No Airbags

Fiat Palio 1.3 ( its 1.2 in fact ) Brazilian Made

Pros :
the 1.2 engine is a Fiat design ( FIRE ) - 16V -produces 83 hp
Engine noise is almost silenced inside the cabin
Very good fuel consumption
Spare parts are not cheap yet alot cheaper than the Pointer
Service centres are almost everywhere NOW .
Car height is excellent , makes it very good for our MOUNTAIN HIGH ROAD BUMPS

Cons :
Some interior materials look really cheap
Missing the same stuff just like the Pointer
Waranty is only 1 year - Unlimited Kilos
Less Resale value , its a fiat

Personal , If I had the chance to buy again , between these two , I will chose the Palio again .

Here in Brazil Palio is a best saler with more than 16.500 cars sold last month, Palio have better materials inside, good FIRE engine (here are 1.0, 1.4 or 1.8), painel with better look, complete computer bord (this don't exist in Pointer), is cheap to keep a Palio.

yes I know , but its not stupidity .. its just not a GIRLS thing u know , I think all you care of , is good looks , good color and a cool sound system

well sadly both pointer and palio while marketed as FULL OPTIONS they are the Basic version of their sisters abroad , IE the Palio has more than 7 diffrent versions out there .. but we only get one .. well u know how our cool country works

Anyways yes its very very simple to add a cassette/mp3/radio in the car , It is equipped for PLUG & PLAY , installation takes 15 minutes , it already comes with 4 basic speakers and a Radio Antena ..

I currently don't use any cassette tapes anymore , so I installed an CD/Mp3 player with Radio of course and its been great , its a Pioneer one , costs around 650 - 700 LE including installation , note however that most cars on the Egyptian market with the same price tag, come with very low quality cassettes installed , so keda keda its useless, you will eventually have to replace it .

Transportation suck , I used to go to my Uni by taxis ,,, coted me a fortune , I am glad I graduated now , work is about 15 minutes away , but still a car is a must here .. especially for a hard working architect ! ( i hate my job )

I almost forgot a feature , FiatBrazil reminded me of it , Computer Trip , the Palio has a built in Computer Trip ( Digital Screen keda feeeha information ) about your Kilometers run , Fuel Consumption , Trip Consumption , Average speed , Also a customizable alarm for speeds ( the car makes a beeep when u reach a certain speed ) , it also reminds you of Service times , gives u some basic warning about errors in the car and stuff , its really a nice features to see in this segments of cars , this usualy belongs to higher end segment .

anyways if you decided to get the Palio , I will be glad to help you out with any information regarding audio / service centers etc .. .ana 3amalt 3 7awades already and I know how things work with this car .. hehe ( ba3d el sharr 3aleky tab3an ) .

Thanks Bro , Yeah I know that the Palio outsells the Gol in Brazil , and better engines but I dont like the higher ones ( 1.4 - 1.8 , they are 8v I believe ) .

Cryptonx: All engines are 8V, in the past we had 1.0 16V, 1.3 16V Fire and 1.6 16V Torque but after the government reduced the tax for engines betwen 1.1 until 2.0 all the Great small 16V engines died.
We had in the past: 1.0 16v, 1.3 16v, 1.6 16v, 1.0 supercharge (ford), only Renault keep enginies 1.0 16v and 1.6 16v.

Now we have: - 1.0 8v Fire with 66hp using ethanol or 65 using Gasoline*
- 1.3 8v Fire with 70hp (only for Uno Cargo and Fiorino cargo van)
- 1.4 8v Fire with 81hp using ethanol or 80 using Gasoline*
- 1.8 (Gm engine) 115hp using ethanol or 110 using Gasoline*
- 1.6 16v torque (Stilo, Marea and Marea Weekend)
- 1.8 16v
- 2.4 20v
- 2.4 20v Turbo (Marea and Marea Weekend)

* FlexFuel enginies (we can use 100% ethanol, 100%gasoline or Mixture in any proportion.)

Hey ppl, just one more information: the Palio is clearly more comfortable on the road. Thats because Pointer's suspension is a little too hard, and here in Brazil this car is know as unconfortable, too harsh, too rustic. Well, the Palio is a better option considering ergonomics, smoothness, the driving position is great. On Pointer, the steering well is very off-center, terrible! The seats are more lower too. Definitly an old design, I don't recomend VW Pointer to anyone, this car may be a VW, but for sure its the worse choice, unless you don't have any comfort needs.

as for spare parts

Both the Palio and Pointer spare parts are a bit expensive , altho the Palio is 25 to 35 % cheaper than the Pointer , but its still not a FIAT spare part like you would expect ..
for example , the Front Headlight is for 900 LE ...
the Rear one is for 650 LE

Pointers front headlight is for 1300 I think .

Service centers , well its still a FIAT SIENNA inside the car , ie its just some cosmetic changes from the outside .. so almost any FIAT service centre applies

as for thier treatment , well I went to the one in the Cairo-Alex road , its the most popular , the largest and the well respected one , called " Nile Engineering Co" they are very very profisional , polite people , the place is nice and charge rates are reasonable .

as for the Pointer , I honestly dont know about thier service centers .. but I have a friend of mine who has one , and he said they are also very good yet very expensive .

a point to be said tho , the Mechanical parts of the Palio are very cheap compared to new cars ,because like I said its still A SIENNA inside .. so its widely available , the parts that are not so popular and expensive are Cosmetic / Body parts , cuz the car is still new ..

you can find spare parts only ( not service centers ) at El Kilany fe west el balad , Fiat 2000 and some other ppl at Baghdad Street ( Masr el Gedida )

Dear all, I'm also from Cairo Egypt,
I'd like to ask about the 1.0 palio is it as good as the 1.3 I saw the 1.3 palio today and it's fantastic but it costs 69,000 L.E. I'd like to buy it but there is also a 1.0 palio model 2006 it's brand new zero car but only in the license it will be 2006 it only costs 58,000 L.E., so my question is.

Is the 1.0 palio the same body of the 1.3 only the engine differ or the whole car is smaller?
I travel much will it stands my traveling?

Do any body have the 1.0 palio what's your comments?

Hey there ,
Welcome aboard ,

Both Palios are the same , the new 1.3 has only new Interior / Headlights / Back ... everything else is TYPICALY the same except the engine

the Palio 1.0 comes with a 1000CC engine , producing 54 hp I think
the Palio 1.3 is actualy a 1242CC engine producing 83 hp at 5000 rpm .

other than these , everything is almost identical / spare parts etc etc .

it will be a good / cheap one for traveling , Altho I must warn , it has no Power steering and the A/c will be killing to the engine on Cairo Raods ( I am talking about the 1.0L version ) .

I have the 1.3 Palio , for 11 months now , and it has been great so far

Anyways, after that long period of time where I was in the lala land (prisoned-I mean) I started to think about some other options (As I really started to hate both Palio & Pointer - specially pointer, after i saw the bad fabrics which its interiors are made of :yuck: ) and compare them to your beloved Palio , :idea: tell me what about Daihatsu Sirion, or Hyundai Getz????? are they making any good options, or I'll end up having no car forever

hi all, realy I loved the conversation but i'm now confused to buy a palio or not, also i'm talking about china assembled palio its 1.5L the motor is from Italy, but its not famous in cairo, also i'm comparing between it and the 1.6 verna assembeled here in Egypt, I'd be very happy if any one can help me about this issue
